ORUalum
ORU falls in the bottom of the ninth. This one was all on the pitching coach. After pitching 2 innings each on Sunday, ORU rolls out both Townsend and Stout on one day rest. Both pitchers have absolutely nothing and combine to give up 6 runs. Varnell battled a high pitch count, but was effective. Womacks and Larkins both pitched well. You needed to rest Townsend and Stout and let the rest of the pen finish the game when Varnell was done. ORU gave that game away twice. On the upside, Cummings' bat seems to be coming around. L: Stout
ManiacAlum
Definitely a curious move, especially in a midweek game, even if it is against a quality opponent. And a midweek game before your first conference series this weekend nonetheless. I could possibly...possibly...see Stout coming in after ORU regained the lead in the 8th. But this should have been a bullpen night after Varnell was out.
EagleManiac
Watched the final inning on ESPN3 after I got home from work. Tough pill to swallow. And you could see it coming too. Do we just not have any other guys to run out there that we can trust to close out a couple outs?
