ORUJason
3-0 start vs Utah is impressive. I am definitely glad that baseball season is here.
theeagleman5
Sweeping a decent PAC-12 opponent is nothing to sneeze at to start the 2018 season....5 innings scoreless innings by McGregor then four shutout innings by the bullpen and Henson goes 3-4 in the 3-0 win....bring on the Pokes!!... Old Titan
A season-opening sweep of a Pac-12 team sounds great and will no doubt prove valuable all season long, but it should be noted that Utah has been picked dead-last in their 11-team conference (league-member Colorado does not play baseball), coming off a .500 campaign in 2017. In terms of conference affiliations and their place in the animal kingdom, if ORU is a jumbo shrimp; Utah is a pygmy elephant. Still, a 3-game sweep is a 3-game sweep, whether it's against a Power 5 team, or an NAIA school. Simply put, ORU was "all pitching & defense" in the series, and just good enough at the plate. The challenge remaining is this: to get excited about the sparkling 1.67 ERA, the solid defense, and the three door-slam saves in the series, OR to be worried over the anemic .167 team batting average, the meager 6 extra-base hits, and the 28 strikeouts (1.16 per inning at bat). I choose the former: the guys who aren't hitting yet have proven before that they can, the newcomers looked pretty good at the plate, while the pitching staff was just shy of dominant, along with the sterling work behind the plate from Matt Whatley's replacements. It's a great way to start any season - three straight wins, with room for improvement!
ORUTex
I’ll take a sweep of any Pac-12 team any time.
ManiacAlum
Hoping that the route from the starting aces to the back end of the bullpen through the middle relief is much less adventurous than last year.
