Crowd was small (more than 400, I think), but we were LOUD!

Yeah, I assumed it was hyperbole, but it still made me laugh.

And if you're wondering just how frustrated the MSU faithful are this morning after losing to a sub-250 RPI team on Sunday, one need only visit their message board, where the most active current thread is titled "FIRE LUSK!"  LOL

According to RealTimeRPI.com, they dropped a whopping 59 points (from 60 to 119) for the 17th-worst single-game RPI drop so far this season:

P.S.  What did I tell you about Emmanuel shooting the occasional three?  They were both HUGE buckets at the time.

"Shoot your shot, Shooter!!" LOL

Me watching the game yesterday: No, no, no, no,..........................YES!!!!

Is he shooting 10% from 3 yet?  Despite some big shots yesterday, I want no part of depending on Javan and Eman to knock down 3's to win.

We saw some good 3-point shots yesterday, but I don't think we have a true, consistent 3-point shooter on this team.

Not according to the stats...

Kearns:  26 of 63  (41.3%)    He was 3 of 5 yesterday

Ruder:  22 of 58  (37.9%)

Fuqua:   10 of 29  (34.5%)

White:  4 of 8  (50%).... j/k

In terms of percentage, what would you (or, anyone else) consider a "true, consistent 3-point shooter"?

30 percent?

35 ?

40 ?

Asking for a friend - thx. ;-)

I was just thinking that we don't seem to have a guy that everyone would refer to as "the 3-point shooter"--someone who has a knack for hitting 3's consistently. As far as percentage is concerned, I would probably say someone whose average is over 50% would be in that category. This is just me talking and thinking. And wishing we had a "specialist."

Nobody shoots 50% from the 3-point line - although Tim Gill came close (48% or so) one season. I think if a player can consistently shoot 35% form the three-point line, he should be considered a 'specialist'. It is the equivalent of shooting 52.5% from 2-point area.

BTW, Kearns shot 53% from the three point line in Juco. I think he is a bit hampered by having to help run the point (he had 8 assist yesterday) and not playing his natural position. He also plays a lot of minutes and doesn't get much rest. And he is a bit short so getting his shot off can be difficult. I noticed that towards the end of the game Mills ran a specific play for Kearns to shoot a three pointer - and he made it. That is the definition of a 'specialist'.

42% or better is considered elite.  Technically, you'd want to break down the types of shots as well. i.e. % off of spot ups vs off the dribble.

Any good coach will tell you the shooting percentage is based a lot on shot selection and opportunity.  You can be an elite shooter but have a lower percentage simply because you are forced into tough shots all the time.

That all being said.  I feel like Sam and RJ are going to shoot very well when open.  And both are streaky and can do some damage off the dribble but they will have some bad games as well.  Heck, Ruder is an elite shooter and he had a 2 for 11 game early in the year.

The rest of the team will benefit from being left open.  Harris, Eman and Javan all can hit a shot here and there.  If they hit 1 out of 3 open looks that'll be big.

Okay. 50% is a dream. I'd settle for 40%. I think I'm just frustrated with watching guys take and miss 3-point shots. I know it has to do with the other team's defense, and us not getting a lot of good looks. But I saw some guys who were wide open yesterday and not taking the shot--maybe because they had been told to work the ball inside instead for a higher-percentage shot. It was good to see Chris Miller getting more minutes and doing well!

Half of those career 3-point leaders are Hall Of Famers - I think that's expecting a bit much from anyone on this roster.

Comparing "2's and 3's" in terms of shooting percentage is fool's gold:  yes, a made "3" is 50% "better" than a made "2", all other things being equal, but in terms of productive possessions a missed shot is still a missed shot, and any "3" missed stood a better chance being made if it had been a "2" instead, plus any "2" attempted stands a better chance of drawing a shooting foul than a typical "3" does.

Still, since shooting percentage on "3's" is still the easiest standard-of-measure, I think anything over 35% is very acceptable for anyone on this team, and anyone shooting over 40% from behind the arc should have a green light IF they can get an open look.

Missouri State's Monday woes continue in the aftermath of Sunday's outcome:  they dropped completely out of the Mid-Major Top 25, from 15th a week ago.

Others of interest in the latest poll:

11.  UNLV

14.  Florida Gulf Coast (Saturday's opponent)

24. South Dakota State

Receiving Votes (30th) - South Dakota

Can't argue about not drawing personal fouls - but statistically, you have a better chance at an offensive rebound shooting three pointers. I guess that is because of long rebounds from the miss. And it can argued whether a missed three pointer stands a better chance than a two pointer given how weak players are in their mid range game. I would love to see a team try to shoot only three pointers or layups for an entire game to test this 'theory' out - assuming the team has somewhat decent three point shooters.

Flip on a Golden State Warriors game!:-D :-D :-D :-D

But seriously, I think I remember reading about a DII or DIII team that tried it a few years ago.

Back to the game, I like how Mills will change his defense out of a TO -- come back with a possession of man or 2-3 before returning to the 1-3-1 / 3-2 / amoeba or whatever it's technically called.
