Big Sky / Summit sign 4 year deal

The four-year series between the two conferences will begin in the 2018-19 season and extend through 2021-22. Each team will play one home and one road game per season against a school from the other conference.

“Men’s basketball scheduling is a challenge, particularly in our geographic region,” Montana State athletic director Leon Costello said in a news release. He and MSU head coach Brian Fish were among those initiating the process. “This series guarantees a home game against a quality Division I opponent each season, and it builds familiarity between two highly competitive conferences. This series is a great way to overcome those scheduling challenges and provides benefits to each team."

This is a great idea and has been mentioned on this forum previously. The low/mid major conferences need to work together on scheduling games like this.

It appears that only the northern tier teams are a part of this.  Outside of the Dakota schools, Omaha is the only other school mentioned for this four-year series.  Could this be the start of a new conference alignment?  :smirking:

Good work.  I told this board that a Northern Tier FBS conference is coming.  This is the first announcement toward that end.

Think ORU shortly announces that it is going to the  WAC.  The WAC offers southern locales with massive population.

Think the final WAC will be working towards FBS but have some non-fb schools:

UCDavis

Sac St

Cal Poly

GCU

NMSU

UTRGV

Incarnate Word

Sam Houston St

S F Austin

ORU

UMKC

Think UVU, Seattle and Cal Baptist will exit the WAC for a depleted Big Sky.

i completely misread that......when it said "8 teams", i assumed all 8 teams in the league

should have finished the whole article.....

still a nice deal for the northern schools

Well it's obvious that you need to move to the non-football WAC or Horizon, because football aspirations which most Presidents have is not your cup of tea.  So many clueless posters here about what Presidents want and aspire to.  Would have thought a sports board in Okie wold have had a clue.

The new WAC has seen quite the makeover since the summer.

But the real magic will be seeing Sam Houston, SFA and at least 2 other other teams that are better FCS programs than UND (including one current FBS member) step aside to make way for your new northern FBS conference.

What a load of crap.

So, I guess this also means the Missouri Valley is merging with the Mountain West?  BECAUSE THEY HAVE A SIMILAR SCHEDULING AGREEMENT FOR MEN'S BASKETBALL, SO IT MUST BE SO!!  SMOKING GUN!!

As do the ACC and Big Ten, etc, etc.

And what about the exclusion of South Dakota?  THEY MUST BE JOINING THE WAC AS WELL!!

Just keep moving, folks - nothing to see here.

All other conference crossover events were set up for money at the conference office.

This one did not involve the conference offices at all, so it goes way over your head.  A D's set it up so their fans get used to the opponent.

The inclusion of Omaha shows they are in to the max.  Their fans need to get used to the Montana's and Idaho.  Denver and South Dakota have asked in the past for Big Sky membership, so they aren't foreign to the Montana's like ORU.

So where is ORU going?

NDSU, SDSU, and USD this year have stronger football programs than the Southland.  We would have been up there too, but our defense was absolutely devasted with injuries, like relying on 6th string LB and 4th string DB.  UND has a winning record against all other Dakota schools, so this year (and decade) are abberations.

The Big West move to 11 teams show that the Big West is fearful of losing UCDavis and Cal Poly.  Both of those schools have plans to go FBS and the only league that is mutually agreeable now is the WAC.

Some people refer to decades-long aberrations as 'trends'.

We won the Big Sky fb last year and won all the major championships, fb, mbb, wbb, and vb. This in spite of UND having hockey as it's main sport.   We were the power in DII fb that drove NDSU and SDSU out, as they were pathetic in football last decade.  Only Brian Kelly before Notre Dame prevented us from winning several DII fb crowns.

UND with Denver made its own hockey conference when Minnesota and Wisconsin left.  The same thing will happen with an all sports conference and that's why Denver joined the Summit as they knew UND would join too with their Montana friends.  The NCAA rules on all sports conferences make the process much longer.

Rather amazing that the MVFC and Big Sky formed a conference challenge too, but only when UND joined.  The same thing happened to the Summit/Big Sky when UND joined.  There is a pattern here that too many can't see.  Like in the Bible.

See, now all those sound more like aberrations. You're catching on.

LOL - where to begin?

"LIKE IN THE BIBLE"??

ROTFLMAO

Come to think of it, I think it DOES say somewhere in Proverbs or Leviticus or another Old Testament book:  "Beware of college sports fans who use the word 'we' while crowing about their favorite team's exploits".

Memo to clueless fan nation:  unless you're on the staff or the roster at that school, "WE" DIDN'T DO ANYTHING - "THEY" DID WHILE "YOU" WATCHED.

Family members and I have given two endowed scholarships.  Therefore I use 'we'.  If that offensive to you, there is a term snowflake.

The Bible is such an amazing source of knowledge so it's rather amazing that any reference is decried here.

Known some very good ORU grads and supporters, but some seemed to be critical and not open to new revelations,  as they are too set on the Oral Roberts doctrine and oppose any other Bible inspired thought.

Classy. I can't believe you guys haven't been invited to an FBS conference yet.

And you still haven't said the pattern "like in the Bible" that you are referencing?
