Dr. Cornelius
Frankamp Shines in Shocker Scrimmage Quote The box score looked familiar to Wichita State basketball coach Gregg Marshall. The Shockers held Oral Roberts to 19 baskets, forced 19 turnovers and committed 10 themselves. Those are familiar foundations for the Shockers, who defeated Oral Roberts 86-49 in a 40-minute scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena. "This will certainly give us some video now, against a different opponent, where we can go and try to tighten things up," Marshall said. "All in all, not a bad day, especially considering all the injuries." Wichita State guard Conner Frankamp scored 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, 4-of-6 from three-point range. He scored eight points during a red-shot span in the second half that sparked the Shockers after a sluggish start. He also handed out three assists and impressed Marshall with his drives to the basket. In the first half, he drew defenders and passed to Rauno Nurger for a layup. In the second half, he drove, scored and drew a foul for a three-point play. Soon after, he found Nurger again with a nifty bounce pass for a basket and foul. "He's more north and south," Marshall said. "He looks very aggressive, very confident." The Golden Eagles made 8 of their first 11 shots. They went 11-of-41 from the field for the remainder of the game to finish at 19-of-52 (36.5 percent). In the second half, ORU made 7-of-29 shots, 1-of-11 from three-point range. theeagleman5
WSU is a Top 10 team...but may have to amend the over/under to 9.5...sounds like a poor performance....
ORUParentLurker
Wichita is a legit National Championship contender this year. They are loaded even missing a couple of guys. We have some serious work to do to play these guys close. Luckily they could end up being the best team we see all season. Top 3 at a minimum. Hopefully the guys take knowledge out of the scrimmage instead of lost confidence.

This probably Marshall's most complete team at Wichita. Plus, we don't really know what the coaching staff was focused on accomplishing (running through sets, playing certain players together, etc.)
ORUTerry
Or who was able to play.... Some commentators are saying that the Shockers have a legitimate chance at the NCAA title this year. They are a very good team.
ORU82
One thing is for sure, we will experience "bumps" along the way. Hopefully last year represented the bottom of the barrel. It will take time to rebuild the program. Have patience, I believe this staff will turn the program around.
ORUParentLurker
I think the team has the talent to be very competitive in the Summit this year. Wichita would destroy this league. They are picked to win the AAC and it's their first season in that league. We will see obviously. But I'm encouraged by what I see from Mills so far. They were an analytics driven staff at Baylor and he's bringing that here. I'm not 100% convinced that every program has totally bought into that yet so it could be a real advantage.
