I am thrilled at the chance of seeing the Golden Eagles play in Happy Valley.  The 3:00 p.m. tipoff makes it even better as I will not have to get out of bed at the crack of dawn to get there or get home at midnight.  I will be bringing at least my son who is an ORU student along with my wife and possibly others.

Been wondering all year, but never took the time to ask.  How does a program expect to be successful when it plays only 4 of it's first 15 games at home?!  This is absolutely brutal from a competitive standpoint, as well as on the student athlete trying to earn a degree!  Can someone shed light on this issue and if this is the case every year for a mid-major program?

Mike Carter was asked about this in the presser when Sutton was let go.  His response was that there were things Scott wanted for the program and was willing to go on the road a few extra games to pay for those things.

He did not elaborate exactly what what that was --- larger recruiting budget? assistant coach salaries? better travel accommodations / conditions? Who knows????

Mills inherited the bulk of this year's schedule and said in an interview, after being hired, that they will address the scheduling issue going forward.

Teams like ORU have to pay upwards of $100,000 per game just to get a mid-major to come play in the Mabee Center.  Power 5 conference teams wont even return the phone call; they figure there is absolutely no up-side for them to go on the road and risk losing this type of game, or at best win the game but take an RPI hit.

Add the revenue issues described by ORUAlum to the mix, and it's a wonder ORU is able to schedule any non-conference home games at all...

Without knowing the contracts, I think it's safe to guess the $$$ games are -- K State, UNLV, Arkansas, and Minnesota

If they could get that number down to 2 $$$ games a year and add a couple home and home contracts with regional mid/low majors that would probably be the best they could do.  That of course would require more winning and a boost to home attendance to offset fewer money games.  It's kind of a catch 22......they need the money, but horrible non-conference records each year deflates fans, players, program enthusiasm, attendance, etc. which requires them to go raise money as sacrificial lambs to power 5 schools.

The exempt tournament did them no favors either --  2 guarantee losses and 2 expensive trips on opposite ends of the country (Malibu and Happy Valley).  I don't know if the men have these things, but Misti Cussen did a wonderful job getting into 2 of these little 4 team classics this season -- Montana and WSU.  They should come away with 4 victories.

Agreed.  Lack of home games while losing tons of non-conference games is counterproductive to building fan base and attendance at the few home games they do have.  There has to be a better model than the current one.  Will be interested to see what Mills puts together next year.  I''d imagine it won't be quite as bad as this year's schedule.

That was a great motto when we had Green and Tutt and maybe DoMo.... But nobody fears Owens and Kearns...time to change the motto AND the schedule....
