Old Titan
With the firing of Bob Williams at UC Santa Barbara and the retirement of Dave Loos at Austin Peay, Scott Sutton has now moved up two more rungs on a very prestigious list of "Coaches With The Longest Tenure At Their Current School". Scott currently ranks No. 14 on the list. Here's the top twenty names: 1976 1. April 3, Jim Boeheim, Syracuse 1980 2. March 18, Mike Krzyzewski, Duke 1984 3. April 1, Greg Kampe, Oakland 1986 4. April, Rick Byrd, Belmont 1989 5. April 26, Gregg Nibert, Presbyterian 6. May 19, Bob McKillop, Davidson 1990 7. Oct. 1, Ron Cottrell, Houston Baptist 1995 8. March 13, Fran O'Hanlon, Lafayette 9. July 1, Tom Izzo, Michigan State 10. July 20, Phil Martelli, Saint Joseph's 1999 11. March 24, Mike McConathy, Northwestern State 12. March 26, Steve Fisher, San Diego State 13. April 27, James Jones, Yale14. April 30, Scott Sutton, Oral Roberts 15. July 26, Mark Few, Gonzaga 2000 16. July 14, Mike Brey, Notre Dame 2001 17. March 21, Rick Pitino, Louisville 18. March 21, Jay Wright, Villanova 19. April 10, Randy Bennett, Saint Mary's 20. Dec. 20, Will Brown, Albany --- Look at the names on that list! It's a virtual "Who's Who" of college basketball coaches, and surprisingly it contains a number of other mid-major guys who no doubt had opportunities at other places, but chose instead to stay at their current schools. You can argue all you want as to why Scott Sutton hasn't moved on from ORU over that time, but there's something to be said for sheer longevity, however it comes about. And, don't think for a minute that Scott's position on that list would not figure prominently in the story should he ever be relieved of his duties at ORU.
