Summit League Player Of The Week

Mike Daum Of SDSU was named Summit League Player of the Week today, continuing a disturbing trend of opposition players being honored in such a fashion following huge games against ORU.

It's kinda like getting "posterized" ever Monday morning by the league office.

On the other side of the coin, ORU has yet to have a player so recognized this season, and with just three weeks left in the league schedule to do so.

The last time ORU went a full season in the Mid-Con/Summit without at least one player earning Player Of The Week honors?

That would be 2000-01, Scott Sutton's second year at the helm:

Nov. 20    Brad Buddenborg, Oakland

Nov. 27    Jeff Monaco, Southern Utah

Dec. 5      Desmond Harrison, Youngstown State

Dec. 11    Lubos Barton, Valparaiso

Dec. 18    Michael Watson, Kansas City

Dec. 26    Dan Carlisle, IUPUI

Jan. 2      Jason Rozycki, Oakland

Jan. 8      Craig Haese, Youngstown State

Jan. 15    Michael Jackson, Kansas City

Jan. 22    Jeff Monaco, Southern Utah

Jan. 29    Cory Fosdyck, Western Illinois

Feb. 5      Dan Beus, Southern Utah

Feb. 12    Raitis Grafs, Valparaiso

Feb. 19    Dan Carlisle, IUPUI / Fred House, Southern Utah

Feb. 26     Fred House, Southern Utah

The Golden Eagles tied for seventh out of nine schools with a 5-11 league record that year, and went 10-19 overall.

I guess, in terms of milestones, that's probably not the season you would want to be hearkening back to.

But, on a positive note, Caleb, Ken and that gang arrived on campus just two years later, and the rest, as they say, is history!

Wonder what the picture will look like two years from NOW?

The coup de grace...

The only remaining suspense is whether any Golden Eagles will be recognized in the postseason awards later this week.

Here's hoping AJ gets at least honorable mention all-conference (he actually deserves second or third team), or if Emmanuel is recognized in some form or fashion as a newcomer.
