ORU at SDSU

Is there a stat for most blown second half double-digit leads? We may lead the nation in that category over the last 6-7 years.

Sounds like SDSU got to the free throw line an awful lot down the stretch (32 total free throws to 15 for ORU).

Did anyone watch the end of the game?  Did ORU get home-cooked?

No home cooking from my vantage point.  The SDSU head coach announced in the interview going into halftime that they needed to be the more aggressive team in the second half by challenging for all 50/50 balls - and by driving towards the basket to garner more points in the paint.  We must not have heard the interview (sarcasm intended) as we had no defensive answer for it.  While they didn't usually score in the paint, the fouls piled up.  Unlike the first half where the Jacks were a woeful 4-10 from the line, they hit 19 of 22 in the second.  Ballgame...

First 26:44 of the game (2/3): ORU 52; SDSU 37

Last 13:16 of the game (1/3): ORU 15; SDSU 37

Let that sink in a bit...

Make no mistake about it, Mike Daum is a very fine player.

But, the difference in this game was the emergence of Chris Howell and Tevin King in the second half.

Howell 3 pts in first half (3-7 from the line); 17 pts in second half including 3-4 FG and 11-12 FT.

King 1 pt. in 7 minutes first half; 7 pts. 4 steals, 3-3 FG in 14 second half minutes.

37-15 in the final 14 min last night and 70-36 in final 23 min vs. Denver...and several other collapses this season... thats mostly mental and a lack of guards protecting the ball...i did not see yesterdays game....honestly cant bear to watch any more too frustrating...Coach Sutton is frustrated and appears to have no answers....its a nightmare....we just cant play the final 10 minutes of a game.....:n::(:hcsutton:

Let's hope he finds some immediate help for next season!

We had 3 possessions during the last 70 seconds of the game and were only down by 2 at one point.  But we imploded, There were two horrible turnovers by Bradley who tried to be hero and one missed shot by Emannuel if I remember right.  It was all free throws from there out. It was closer than the points indicate. We had a chance. We blew it.

Yes, Bradley did have at least 2 turnovers and I think another missed shot where he came up the floor with the ball and chucked up a brick.

If White is healthy next year, this team may be just one good point guard and one "junk yard dog" at ANY position from at least being competitive in the Summit League.

Not having a point guard consistently running the show, and instead letting Bradley and Young share the duties with Anderson, has led to nothing but chaos in crucial situations and has cost ORU a number of games late.

The Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State have really got it rolling right now. but that's a two-edged sword:  they may win their way into losing their coach to a bigger school.

That's some pretty stout competition for Mr. Evans' services - ORU must be promising him he would start from day one, just to be in that mix.

Would he have to be "promised" to start from day one? I mean, that would pretty much be a given...right?

One would think.

Though, considering the egos a coach must deal with these days on the recruiting trail, one would also think you can't tell a kid enough how much he's going to play.

Doug Gottlieb made a comment the other day about a point guard who averages 37.5 minutes a game.

Said Douglas:  "From most point guard perspectives, that's just two-and-a-half minutes short of ideal."

Well, seeing how we don't have a true point guard this year and we lose AA, AY, & JB...once would assume that a talented point guard could get 40 minutes a game next year...
