ORU at Denver U.

This was a missed opportunity, which fits the theme of the season so far.  However, let's also remember that no ORU team has ever won in Denver, so all is not lost.  Winning at home and splitting on the road is still a formula for contender status in the Summit.  While Saturday's game at Fort Wayne is not likely to be the "split" offsetting the Denver loss, there are some winnable road games down the road.  However, next week at WIU is now a must win, or the wheels may totally fall off.

Thanks, ORUalum - I was able to catch the broadcast of the second half.  Much appreciated!

The Summit League really should require member schools to make their video broadcast available online. For a league where traveling to games is mostly impossible, it's the only way to build rivalries between fan bases.

But about the game, how do we allow Denver to shoot 50% from beyond the arc? They rank 41 in the country in three-point percentage so I assume the coaching staff made that a point of emphasis. Not the start we were hoping for.

Ball don't lie.

Neither do stats:  ORU ranks 293rd in the country in 3-point field goal defense, allowing a whopping 37.7% on attempts behind the arc.

NCAA D-1 Basketball Stats: Three Pt FG Defense

Basic physics/physiology:  short guys have a hard time "closing out" on 3-point shooters.

Actually, it could easily be much worse.

In the last two home games, UALR and Richmond shot a collectively abysmal 2 for 38 from beyond the arc.  Throw out those two games and ORU's 3FG defense is 41.9%, which would rank 341 of 347 in the NCAA.

I just started a thread in the NCAA and Summit section, and posted the WIU/IPFW score.  Could be a good place to track our Summit opponents throughout the season.

Western Illinois just defeated IPFW 93 to 91

This opening stretch of three games just took on an even more ominous tone.

Both those teams will be looking to bring the wood to ORU, for polar opposite reasons.

Western made a school record 18 threes (on 37 attempts) to shock the Dons in Fort Wayne.  It's a good thing this won't happen to us since we defend the three well...
