ORU vs. Southeastern Oklahoma

We begin the season Wednesday evening. Lots of new faces and combinations - so I expect a few bumps. Hope to see lots of ball movement/passing and feeding the low post (Owens & Miller).

Not having seen Emmanuel play, it's hard to say, but my hope is he is a true 3 (ball handling/athleticism)...which means we can have him (3), Chris (4), and Albert (5) on the floor at the same time. This way, everyone is playing their natural position and we don't have 6-4 guys (see Brandon Conley) trying to guard 6-9 post players.

One would think, with those three on the floor (with pick any two guards), our defense and rebounding would be VERY solid.

Then, we could employ a 3-guard line-up for a change of pace, when needed.

I like this lineup. Can Martin play the 2? That would be a pretty big starting five. Unless we want to have one of those bigs coming off the bench.

Plus, I think it would be nice to have guys coming off the bench in 'specialist' type roles (Jontray? Jalen?) rather than starting or playing heavy minutes at the 2 or 3 like they have in the past.

Looks like a SOLID exhibition opponent. Not a gimme, at all.

Not going to pre-judge the lineup. Will trust the coaches decision. Just ready to have hoops back!!

Yeah....SE OKLA is no stiff team.....not a pushover by any means and ORU will have to show up and play a decent game to win....as previously mentioned, the Savage Storm gave UTEP all they could handle last weekend falling by just 7 after hanging around for the entire game....still, we just beat Wichita State in a scrimmage and should win tonight if our young guys can mesh in with the few veterans...we need Albert to step up and dominate inside and this new kid Nzekwesi seems to have some skills......so let's call it  ORU 83  SE Oklahoma 71 with Nzekwesi and Owens leading the way with 17 points each.....:eagles:

Pretty impressed with the new student section - loud all game so far.

Hopefully it stays like that all year

sounded like a typical exhibition game......a little sloppy and lots of combinations of the floor

encouraged by the play of Chris Miller

would have liked to see Dez McDaniel get more run.

i'd guess Manek, RJ, and Sutton get red-shirts

ORU holds on to win, 82-75...big Albert Owens with a beastlike performance of 25 pts  6 rebs. and 3 blocks....Miller chips in 12 and McDaniel 10 in just 11 minutes....Nzekwesi had 9....Eagles 14-15 from the FT line which is a good sign...2068 listed attendance for this pre-season match up...bring on Baylor!....theEagleman didn't see it....bring on the comments from those in attendance....does ORU look like we can compete for a top 3 spot in the Summit League????...:eagles:

Sutton post game

  • thought the defense was further along....reverted back to last season, too many layups, poor post and help defense
  • Anderson has to play better for them to be good
  • Despite the points -- AJ took 19 shots to get 25 and defense was poor...he has to be the last line of defense
  • Thought the early layup helped Dez w/his confidence
  • Liked the play of Chris Miller
  • Overall it sounded like he was disappointed w/his returning players
  • Darian had not practiced in 2 weeks due to a chest pain scare......was cleared by medical just prior to the game.

Folks...we played 9 and had two of our top players in street clothes. We are DEEP! And, athletic. And, have size. VERY encouraged and stand behind my thought that we will compete for the conference title!

This is going to be a fun team to watch.

Alum is right...going to need to redshirt several guys, due to our incredible depth.

VERY pleasantly surprised by Jontray and Dezmond. Chris Miller is a beast. Emmanuel looks like a senior. And, they are all freshmen, outside of Jontray who is a sophomore.

Emmanuel will be Freshman of the Year in the league and first or second team all-conference.
