Old Titan
Everyone around the country began practice in earnest on Monday, without any of the preseason time or numbers limits.

TrueBlue82
Perusing the 2016-17 ORU roster and noticed that Javan White is listed at 6-10 230, compared to last year's 6-8 205. Can't wait to see how his summer in the weight room translates to his play on the court this fall.
74Titan
1. Like other teams, ORU has a tendency to "inflate" player's personal information. Back in the day the University had an obsession (at least perceived) for 7 footers. I once asked David Vaughn, who was listed at 7 feet tall, if he really was 7 ft tall. He said that no, he was 6'10". 2. Jeff Acres came as a 6'7" guard, then grew 2", forcing him sitting out a year. It gave his knees time to adjust to the growth spurt. Javen actually weighing 230 pounds would help him underneath. I respectfully doubt he's 6'10", but don't mind being wrong on this point. Regardless of Javan's-or anyone else's-actual height, what actually matters is what's inside the player, including desire-which Javan appears to have plenty of. theeagleman5
David Vaughn....now there's a blast from the past.....nice quiet kid....TheEagleman had a class with him in 72-73 which was his only season at ORU before transferring to UNLV where he never played a game....wound up in the old ABA playing for the Virginia Squires but was involved in a shooting incident during the late 70s and totally lost track of him....I don't think he ever played professionally again at least in the USA....anybody know where Vaughn is these days?....pretty sure he was part of that Trickey Tennessee connection that brought Richard Fuqua, Eddie Woods and Anthony Roberts to 7777 South Lewis..... 74Titan
Richard Fuqua, Eddie Words, Larry Baker, Jesse Traylor, and Anthony (Woosie) Roberts all came to ORU from Chattanooga Riverside High School. Richard, Larry, and Jesse came in 1969, Eddie in 1970, and Anthony in 1973. David Vaughn came to ORU from Nashville Cameron High School, in 1971. He played for one year (72-73) before leaving ORU. I still remember David running the offense on one play against Brandeis, dribbling behind his back. He also got 36 rebounds against Brandeis that day, a single-game record that still stands today. theeagleman5
Geez.....TheEagleman remembers some of those details....yeah, David was on something....and I have to agree that's not the David Vaughn that was at ORU in 1972-73....the guy was polite and very quiet....but clearly the guy got sidetracked....anybody know what became of David after that?.....Larry Baker was also a really good guy....a senior when TheEagleman got to ORU....excellent 6th man on that ORU team and a leader in the locker room..... theeagleman5
According to info found on the internet, David Vaughn is still alive and 64 years old....after a couple seasons with the Virginia Squires he wound up in Europe where his career ended after an automobile accident where he suffered two broken legs....Wikipedia mentions that he suffered from depression which may have explained the incident in the article listed above and possible medications he was taking....of course, his son David Vaughn III played for Memphis St. and in the NBA for the Warriors, Bulls and Nets....as of 2009, David III was broke and living out of his car......
