ORUIsbig
Perhaps they felt they had to include Sutton after last years debacle, but I have a hard time believing Coach feels any heat in his seat. https://www.campuspressbox.com/2016/summit-league-coaches-hot-seat-2016/
Dr. Cornelius
Quote Since taking the Golden Eagles to three straight NCAA tournaments from 2006 to 2008, the program has failed to secure a conference championship. The recruiting appears to be getting worse with each passing season, as well. Many of the Summit League teams are recruiting for a small ball system, while Sutton is wanting to recruit bigger, which could indicate Sutton may not be able to adapt with the times. 1. The talent level has gotten worse. But is that recruiting or lack of continuity and development? 2. Sutton is doing the right thing by recruiting "big" - this isn't the NBA where every player can make a jumper or create their own shot. Good luck to Summit teams trying to play "small ball" with the level of talent available.
Old Titan
This is the same "blogger-living-in-his-mom's-basement-in-Omaha" who, in a previous electronic bodily function, said that ORU might finish in 9th place and fail to qualify for Sioux Falls. He's a fool - shun him. And, for what it's worth, there is no "hot seat" on the ORU bench, as long as a Sutton is sitting in it and Mike Carter is the AD. Scott Sutton could go 2-30 this year, and Carter would retire (or have to be fired himself) before he would let Billy Wilson force him to fire Scott. Short of that kind of "total house cleaning", Scott's about as safe as anyone in the country.
ORUalum
the staff changes (whether voluntary or asked for) got him next season. if there is not marked improvement in the next 2 years, both seats will get hot. Sutton has earned the right to fix this. If they continue to develop and hit on a couple of the newcomers ----- that group will win Summit league games at a good clip 2017-18 Kmart Javan Albert Darian Eman Big Chris + 2 or 3 stick around from --- McDaniel, Smith, Jontray, Manek Fuqua????? ORUJason
Billy Wilson doesn't strike me as the type of university president who is going to turn up the heat on Mike Carter because Scott Sutton has had 1 losing season in 16 years. I could be wrong about that, but he doesn't seem like that type of leader. I think the discussions between Billy Wilson and Mike Carter might center more around return on investment with the athletics department rather than "have more success or you are fired." Also, if there were athletes who were having run-ins with the law or embarrassing the university, then I think the discussions with Mike Carter would be very serious. But that clearly hasn't been the case.
ORUTerry
ORU had a "Praise Night" after a soccer game this weekend. A lot of the athletes (baseball, women's and men's basketball, volleyball, etc. players) attended. Evidently Scott Sutton was there as well. theeagleman5
Coach Sutton is a good guy,,,,he emails TheEagleman every month or two asking how my wife is doing and letting me know that he and his wife are praying for us....it means a lot that he cares....He can stay at ORU as long as he wants!....

theeagleman5
Rhonda is still slowly improving....much better than this time last year but still dealing with a lack of sensory perception which affects depth perception and balance. So she still needs a walker and can't drive....but she looks really good almost like her old self....we visited Johns Hopkins 10 days ago to see some new specialists and they were encouraged....said there is no reason at her age (54) that she can't continue to improve but it will be slow and could still take a lot of time...they did some cognitive testing and she did well...she's very sharp...long term memory no issues....short term, well...it's still struggling....but so do I at 62....lol.....we are still hopeful and trusting in the Lord...God is good and the prayer support of my friends on this board means so much to us...Rhonda always tells her friends that the ORU basketball coach is one of the people praying for her recovery so it gets us some publicity....lol....thanks for asking!!!

theeagleman5
True that....he won't be like Richard Roberts who supposedly charged into the locker room after a particularly bad loss and yelled something about "is this what I am spending all my money on"....lol....is that story true???.... But, I would also say this: Wilson has made it clear internally that he will NOT accept mediocre teams full of (his words paraphrased) "players covered in tattoos who do not represent our student body". The problem is, how many games can you win at the D-1 level with guys who DO "represent the ORU student body"? I guess we're about to find out...here's hoping it's enough wins to keep ALL of us happy!

(as to the "tattoo" silliness, i see that as a reflection of Wilson's pentecostal/legalistic denominational background. ORU has come a long way from ties and dresses, no beards, piercing restrictions...and on and on with outward appearance rules. i hope ORU is not moving backward on this front.) oruvoice
I think the whole "recruit Christian athletes" is terribly flawed. I can give numerous examples of athletes converted, due to their time at ORU. It's akin to saying, only saved people can be allowed to attend your church...
