Good luck to Chi Chi!!!....he's had a tough season but maybe a trip back to the majors will turn things around for him.....sometimes when young players get a taste of the big leagues and then get sent back their performance suffers...it's some kind of mental thing....Chi Chi sure seems to have the stuff to pitch in the major leagues....let's hope this time he sticks around.....we need more ORU guys in the big leagues!   :eagles:

Not a good outing for Chi Chi at Yankee Stadium on Monday night.....he went 5 innings giving up 10 hits, 5 ER with 2 BB and 2 Ks......the Rangers did come back to win 9-6 which took Gonzalez off the hook.....

Well that's not the stuff that's going to keep him in the majors.

just 2/3 of an inning today.....the Rangers defense did him no favors -- botched 2 double plays and Moreland threw to the wrong base instead of taking an out.

i think Gonzalez needs more time in the minors....same issues as last year.   location problems and no put away pitch.

That's a shame....he was looking like a real stud 2 years ago but has fallen on hard times...but the good news is that Tommy John surgery has come a long way over the past decade and pitchers usually make a full recovery within 12-18 months and many times come back even stronger than before the operation....Cheech is still young at 24-25 so he has plenty left in the tank....maybe he can be back with the Rangers to join Jose Trevino as his battery mate....;-):eagles:

I saw where Chi Chi was not offered a contract for the 2018 season.  With his TJ surgery keeping him out of the game for all of 2018, he will probably pick up a minor league contract with someone to let him rehab at a much cheaper rate of pay.

Watched  a few innings of Chi Chi's return to the big leagues last night (3rd thru 5th inning).  You hear stories of pitchers adding mph to their fastball post TJ surgery, this did not appear to be the case.   His outing looked very similar to his time with the Rangers --- low 90's fastball, lots of sliders, and trying to keep everything down in the zone.  The Giants were getting good wood on the ball after the first time thru the line up.  Chi Chi still does not have a put away pitch, so he has to nibble the corners or try to get guys to chase, there were a lot of extended at bats that led to a high pitch count.  He even gave up an RBI base knock to the Giants pitcher.  Having said all that; he battled thru 5 giving up 3 earned runs and took the L.  The Rockies fell 4-2.

I don't think he will ever be a rotation guy in the bigs, I do think he could stick around if they moved him into long relief and he was not asked to go thru a line up 2 or 3 times.

Really proud of ChiChi and his persistence to get back to the bigs after TJ surgery.  It’s hard enough to make it to “the Show” once, but to do it twice is a huge achievement.

This is exactly what I noticed as well:  just not able (or willing) to challenge batters inside.  End up "nibbling" instead, which leads to the walks and the high pitch count per inning.

Still, it's amazing that he's made it all the way back to the bigs after dealing with so much.  Here's hoping that the launchpad-of-a-stadium the Rockies play in does not become his undoing.

Chi Chi's day is done in the 5th w/no outs.  Chi Chi got screwed by the umps there on the bunt by the pitcher --- how is running inside the baseline not reviewable?  That should have been recorded as an out and runners returned to 1st and 3rd.

Finishes: 4 innings, 3 earned runs, 2 BB, 2 K

Once Chi Chi was assigned to the Brewers' AAA-affiliate in Nashville, he chose free agency again and yesterday signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers and was assigned to the Toledo Mud Hens in the International League.  Hope he can resurrect his major league presence through the Tigers' organization.
