theeagleman5
WOW!....how good is this kid?....and how tall?...is he also a 2 guard like his dad?....TheEagleman knew Richard Fuqua as a reporter for the Oracle during my freshman year...I had the opportunity to chat with him several times and was at every home game during the 72-73 season and a couple of road games.....#24 was a very nice guy....always approachable.....would love to see his son playing at Mabee Center for the Blue and Gold...!!!.... Old Titan
R.J. is a year younger than my son Carson, but he was always on teams that "played up" in tournament competition, so we saw him play all the time. He's also been a fixture at ORU summer camps for years, and I would imagine this official offer came on the heels of his play in the Scott Sutton Team Camp this past week. R.J. is really slight of build (kind of like his dad) and not very tall (5'9" to 5'11" range last time I saw him), but he is wiry and super quick with great handles. He can definitely shoot the "3" also. He really stepped up his level of play last year as a sophomore for Booker T. Washington in Tulsa, making some big plays for them late in games. R.J. will likely get some looks from other programs, especially if he grows a couple more inches. He's definitely someone ORU should be focusing on at this stage in his development. Old Titan
Now on @PrepHoopsOK RJ Fuqua Dominates at ORU Team Camp. #PrepHoops http://t.co/Y1M9WHyScH pic.twitter.com/Fcf11k3p47— Prep Hoops Oklahoma (@PrepHoopsOK) June 20, 2015
ORUalum
do you think ORU has a legitimate shot at landing him? or will end up at a bigger school/better conference? amazing how BTW has opened up now that Nate Harris is retired.....would love to know the story there. also saw that ORU offered a post from Union after the camp....and that TU just offered him today BREAKING: Now on @PrepHoopsOK Union 2017 PF Ethan Chargois picks up his 1st D1 offer from ORU. http://t.co/vecDUDBtDO pic.twitter.com/NrG4dyJAVU— Prep Hoops Oklahoma (@PrepHoopsOK) June 20, 2015
Old Titan
TU is holding a team camp this weekend, so they will be making some offers themselves - all part of the game. Like Fuqua, Chargois will be a junior and can't sign a Letter Of Intent until fall of 2016. Here's RJ with the steal and the lay-up off DeShannon Lowe of Owasso at the ORU Team Camp this past week: https://vine.co/v/eiOFBTMiE2I Speaking of Owasso, the Rams have a 6'2" senior-to-be in Kinzer Lambert who played in the shadow of Shake Milton (SMU signee) the past two years, and is due to blow up this season as their new go-to guy. He was named the MVP of TU's first team camp of the summer a couple of weeks ago: 2016 Owasso Point Guard Kinzer Lambert throwing down a jam at TU Team Camp. #PrepHoops pic.twitter.com/Ya2tC1sm9s— Prep Hoops Oklahoma (@PrepHoopsOK) June 5, 2015 ORU has been sending Kinzer letters for a couple of years, and he seems perfect for the Summit League. Think Josh Atkinson type: not quite as physical or as fast as Josh, but smart, tough, no-nonsense, a slasher with surprising explosiveness at the rim, and a solid 3-point shooter. Would be a good "get" for ORU or one of the better D-II schools in the region.
theeagleman5
Richard was a thin guy maybe 190 pounds...but he stood at 6-3 or 6-4....man, he could shoot from 20+....if the 3 point shot had been in play back then Richard Fuqua would have averaged well over 40 points per game in his sophomore and junior seasons....he wasn't quite the scoring machine in his senior year because we had David Vaughn and Greg McDougald ....maybe if RJ ends up coming to ORU we can resurrect the old saying....PRAISE THE LORD AND PASS THE BALL TO FUQUA!!!..... ORUJason
I hope that Fuqua understands how well he would be embraced at ORU based on his father's history at the school.

theeagleman5
For this kid TheEagleman might agree to "unretire" #24......oh yeah....Billbury is gone now....I sure hope they don't hand it out again.....unless it's to RJ if he wants it...

Old Titan
I've been informed by "a friend" that RJ is up for the Tulsa World "All World" team, and that any fan votes from the ORU basketball family would be greatly appreciated... http://m.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/okpreps/all-world/basketball2016/ He's also a candidate for Mr. Basketball at http://www.vype.com "Vote early - vote often!" theeagleman5
RJ looks just like his old man about 45 years ago....except he is a few inches shorter.....would sure love to see him play in the building that was built for his dad when the old HRC got too small....TheEagleman did see one game in the old HRC....that place was rockin'....I was there the night we set the D-1 scoring record at the time....155 points against Union(TN) in 1971-2 season....Fuqua might have had 60 that night if there had been a 3 point line back then.....watching that game was one of the things that sold me on coming to ORU at the ripe old age of 17......
