ORU at Omaha

ORU travels to Nebraska this weekend looking to protect it's 3 game lead over SDSU in the Summit League standings.....Omaha has cooled off after a hot start and now stands 6 games back of ORU at 10-11 in league play and 17-23 overall...the Eagles are at 16-5 and 19-13.....this is a series that ORU really has to win to continue on the road for the #1 seed.....but honestly, does seeding really matter in this tournament next month?...it's likely to come down to ORU and SDSU in the finals anyway......and winning the tournament will likely be our only way into the NCAAs.....losing the series finale at NDSU then dropping 2 of 3 to SDSU at home have probably pushed us out of contention for an at large berth..... :nerd:

The regular season championship is important in making this the last year of traveling to South Dakota for a conference baseball tournament.

Ah....so the winner of the regular season title gets to host the Summit tournament the following year???...TheEagleman wasn't aware of that....heck yeah....ORU needs to win it then!....a 6-3 finish should do it.....7-2 would clinch for sure..... :nerd:

Last weekend the ORU bats really cooled off except for the finale and the under prevailed....TheEagleman is hoping that the Golden Eagles heat up again this weekend and I will set the over/under on runs scored for ORU at 20..... :|

This was probably a good point in the season to not have a Tuesday game scheduled. I'm sure everyone could use a few days off from playing to rest any nagging injuries and get their pitching lineup right where they want it to be for this upcoming series.

ORU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead this afternoon but Omaha has just touched up Trujillo for a pair of runs and it's now 3-2 for the home team in the 6th inning.....we really need a win today!....

Nice rally by the Good Guys today to win the series opener at Omaha.....a solid starting effort by Trujillo then Sequeira comes on to get the final four outs....he also had a pair of RBI.....ORU is now 30-13 while the Mavs drop to 17-24.....game two Saturday afternoon....GO BLUE!!!.....

ORU hangs on to win Game two of this series, 8-6.....we jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead but the Mavs battled back to 7-6.....great relief pitching by McDavid who tossed 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball coming on for Altamirano.....the Good Guys got HRs from Brandy and James....so we are now 31-13 with a four game lead in the Summit over SDSU who lost in extra innings at home yesterday vs. WIU......let's bring out the brooms for Sunday....

ORU finishes the sweep today in Omaha ralling from 7-0 down to win 18-7 in an 8 inning run rule game....Colin Hightower came on with five solid innings in relief of Bryce Howe to get the win....Noah Cummings went 4-4 on the day and Matt Brandy had a HR and 5 RBI....the first six hitters in the ORU lineup had multiple hit games as the Eagles go to 32-13 overall and are 19-5 in the Summit.....that pretty much wraps up the #1 seed in the tournament which ORU should be able to clinch next weekend at IPFW.....GO BLUE!!!....

What a wacky and weird Sunday it was in Omaha.

The game was played at Millard North High School because Omaha's field at Boys Town (yup, that Boys Town) was unplayable after thunderstorms rolled in and the tarp wasn't on, or something to that effect.  Anyway, at Millard North the infield is turf and the outfield is grass, and we had some adventures on the base paths, including in the 7th inning when both Chase Stafford and Matt Whatley overslid the bag and were eventually tagged out.  Whatley actually got up and ran to third and got caught in a rundown and was out.

Us playing at a high school field might be a first...

Hax had his own adventures.  He showed up and realized that the press box was behind the third base dugout, and that wasn't going to work for him so he sat ON TOP of our dugout on the first base side and did his usual great job broadcasting the game, on his cell phone.  He's the man.

And we fell behind 7-0 after 3 innings and scored 18 unanswered, including 9 in the 8th to run-rule the Mavs.

Crazy.

Great photo. bro!....YES...Hax is THE MAN!!!....talk about being adaptable.....and TheEagleman is obviously wondering....has any team ever fallen behind by 7 runs and come back to run rule it's opponent?.....that's not something you DON'T see every day.....and perhaps it could have been a first....certainly for ORU..... :nerd:

Wow, great pic.

Only in the Summit League would a team located in the same town as the College World Series not be able to find a better field than that.

They couldn't cut a deal to play some weekends at TD Ameritrade or at the ballpark where the Omaha Storm Chasers play?
