  1. Losing is for LOSERS....and ORU is not a place where losing is ever acceptable. Those of us who knew OR know how he would respond to losing....we need to recruit only players who have a winner mentality...end of discussion...then coach them up....let's do that....

  2. If we have very low expectations, we will get very low results. We should only be looking for players that will take the floor and think that they should have a chance to win every game; otherwise, they shouldn't have a place to play at ORU. #MakeNoLittlePlansHere

  3. I watched the first 4 innings or so before I switched over to my beloved Texas Rangers. Have y'all heard they are the defending World Series Champions? I may post about that in the Free For All section. In any event, I started watching at work and then listened on my drive home. Did anyone watch on the SLN network? The Omaha broadcast was pretty funny. First of all, they easily have as much work to do on proper camera work as our crew does. I did see a few catches in the outfield but not many. They had a couple of, what I assume were, undergrads doing the play by play and color commentary. My first thought on the play by play was that I was going to enjoy her broadcast. She has a pleasant voice and an easy going, very conversational style. Then she commented that neither team had scored any "points." After awhile I realized she never identified a pitch. I'll be honest, with my naked eye I'm lucky to correctly identify fast ball vs. breaking ball. Maybe I can distinguish a curve ball from other breaking pitches...maybe. But we were getting none of that and often on called balls we got no description of where the ball missed. Color commentary broadcaster was also pleasant enough to listen to but offered very little insight. When it was tied 0-0 in the third, the play by play person asked color commentary what she thought of the game so far and we got something along the lines of "it's been really close so far. I think it is going to be a close game." Okay. I it isn't my intent to hate on these young women. I'm glad Omaha is giving them some live broadcast experience. Both of them are nice broadcasters but do not bring a lot of baseball knowledge to the table. I have two reasons for this post. It is an attempt to be fair and balanced since I have been very critical of the camera work at JLJ. To appreciate the great Adam Hildebrand who does a fantastic job calling our games. It is Easter weekend, He is Risen!, so I don't know if I will get to watch the next two games at Omaha but if I do, I will do my best to synch up Adam's call to the SLN video stream. Have a great Good Friday friends!

  4. I think going .500 in conference play next year is an attainable but necessary goal. We have a lot of transfers, but so does the most of the Summit league. If we can’t win HALF of our conference games next year, then we simply are not heading in the right direction.

  5. Personally, at this stage with nothing of prestige to really play for, I don't care if we beat another mid-week team or if we lose one or two more SL games, but..... I do care if we don't win the regular season and lose the Summit League tournament at ORU for 2025. AND I do care if we don't win the SL tournament this year. The winner of the SL baseball tournament will be a #4 seed in the NCAA regional, so I am OK with going anywhere in the country to represent another ORU run in the regionals, but there is enough talent on this team to win and win big. Now is the time to start executing.

  6. UNC should have picked up Kareem Thompson in the portal last year. How the heck do the Tar Heels let that guy look like a legit first round draft pick? Unreal and very disappointing...if you had UNC advancing on your bracket

  9. I cut the cord about 5 years ago and due to the spitting contest between regional sports outlets and most streaming services I don't get to see as many Rangers games as I would like. If I'm honest with myself, that's probably good for my marriage. In any event, the Rangers are the defending World Series Champions so the world wide leader in sports chose the first Rangers game of the season for a national broadcast. What a treat to see the championship banner hung at Globe Life Whateverthisoneiscalled. Nasty Nate Eovoldi had to battle last night but set the team up for a win. A bad call and a distracted Jonah Heim allowed the Cubs to take a one run lead late only to have the game tied in the 9th by pinch hitter Travis Jankowski. It was Jankowski's 11th home run in his 1,317 career at bats. Let that sink in. Oh, he swung at the first pitch he saw this season. Heim redeems himself with a walk off RBI in the bottom of the 10th. It looks like the Rangers will be a scrappy bunch again this year. They just need to figure out a way to stay in contention until the Cy Young winners start coming off the IL later in the season. I know we have a lot of Astros fans on this board. I pray for you regularly It looks like we will have another hotly contested AL West race this year. Especially if Ron Washington can figure out how to put out the dumpster fire in Anaheim.

  11. Midco is restructuring their sports network, they just laid off a bunch of staff and have stated they are going to invest more in their streaming product, but it seems they will continue to operate the cable network and the current deals with USD, SDSU, and UND will apparently not be affected. However they did just lay off our BB/FB play by play guy, so I'm not sure what there plans are there for next year (I think they hope to hire the same people on as contractors, so they don't have to employ them as they have been doing). They are ceasing production of anything High School sports related. There is talk that they are pursuing the rights to a new collegiate sports conference, but the only ones that make any sense to me would be hockey related, which I doubt any of you would be interested in, unfortunately. Hopefully this cost cutting will allow them to redirect investment towards improving the broadcasts and the functionality of the streaming website/software.

  14. Another fantastic outing from Jakob Hall! Although he was robbed of it last week, he should be looking at a Summit League POTW for sure… right?!

  15. Well said Bogus. First of all, I do still relish the CWS and I will to my last day on this planet. I proudly wear the t-shirt I bought in Omaha. Wore it in Waco as a matter of fact. I admit to having some delusions of grandeur that we would be back this year. Mostly just because it was so awesome and I wanted to experience it again. But it is hard to maintain that high level year in year out for the powerhouse schools let alone our scrappy mid-major program. I still hold some optimism for this year. I haven't run any numbers yet but I feel pretty certain that the ship needs to be righted starting this weekend. Go Eags!

  16. Bob Stoops won one national championship in 2001. He never won another one even though he made it to the playoffs a couple of times. It is very difficult to string two seasons of high performance - especially for a mid-major school. We should continue to relish the successes of our team from 2023. However, to feel that we can maintain that level of competition each and every year is unrealistic. Yes, we should win the Summit League each and every year. There is no reason to expect one of the northern-tier schools to match our resources and coaching. THAT is where the rub is. If we fail to win the Summit League - regular season and post-season - we should be highly offended at the effort of a group of players that can perform better if they have each others' backs.

  17. I agree with most of what you say, @theeagleman5, but I take one exception that is bolded above. With the exception of a few P4 schools, athletics is a drain on a university's budget. Athletics is a "cost center" - plain and simple. It is usually not a "profit center" that is throwing off dollars for academics, operations, and endowment. It brings an intangible of school pride for the university community and alumni, but there is nothing that you can buy at the grocery store with "school pride". Student athletes should be able to monetize their name, image, and likeness, just like any other person that is recognized for their skills and talents in all industries; however, to sell these kids a bill of goods that their promotion of goods or services is going to substantially drive an economic gain for a large segment of the population because they are sitting the bench on a P4 school's athletic team or scoring 10 points per game for the Bryant Bears in the northeast is a far cry from how the world works to make a living. Student-athletes should be investing themselves in the classroom and in their field of play rather than on social media (in my humble opinion, of course!).

  18. Coaches can affect a few games per season with strategy and substitutions and maybe a stirring pre game speech or two......but in baseball players have to run, throw, hit and pitch.....that's what wins games....time for our guys to step up and play better....or maybe since we lost most of our 2023 CWS team this is what we got and they just ain't very good....geez how the mighty have fallen.....TheEagleman never thought the drop off would be this drastic......

  20. They are not finished fundraising, but it is my understanding that they are going to start the renovations upon the end of the Summit League tournament in May.
