  1. I have to admit that the last few weeks have been very challenging for me as an ORU fan. Golden Eagle Nation was very spoiled in 2023 with two incredible stories that carried our MBB team to an undefeated conference season and a NCAA tourney berth, followed by a remarkable CWS run by ORUBASE. The positive momentum during 2023 was palpable, and with the opening of the Mike Carter Athletic Center and the prospect of even more talented recruits, I was very excited headed into 2024. Yes, Coach Mills and three starters were gone, but the hiring of HCRS brought Issac, DJ and Kareem back into the fold. And, Coach Folmar amazingly recommitted to stay as ORUBASE Coach at a time when his market value was at an all-time high. Surely, this was FINALLY the time when ORU Athletics would rise above its place in the lowly Summit and become a mid-major power in both of its two high-profile sports. And, of course, all of those dreams have been dashed and the positive momentum has “left the station” after a losing MBB season and one of the worst starts to an ORUBASE season in the past decade. One thing that I have learned through all of this is to just “enjoy the moment”. Instead of looking to build a foundation for the future (and therefore becoming disappointed), I hope that I can remember the 2023 athletic year for all of the joy and excitement that it brought me, and the incredible year I enjoyed with the diehard ORU fans who surrounded me on that journey. And, while I am hopeful that ORU will have similar experiences sometime in the near future, I realize that it is not likely for ORU to remain at the mountain top for an extended period of time in this era of collegiate sports. I don’t know if any other members of this board have felt the same way recently, but I have to admit that I feel a little bit better after preparing this post. Message board = good therapy

  2. Absolutely correct! It is a 2 way street. .I know Bedford is a good player but clearly this year's team lacked a cohesiveness and unity so I am of the opinion if you want to leave and chase greener pastures go for it and we wish you great success. From my life experience the pasture is most green where you water it. I really believe HCRS will find a group of guys that want to play for him and each other. Some of these future players might even be good athletes that have been promised the moon only to realize it wasn't all they thought it would be. One thing is for certain , whatever an athlete is promised monetarily by HCRS they will get it. Give the NIL a few years to play out and all of us will hear about and witness the good, bad and the ugly. At the end of the day there will only so much $ to go around at these colleges, some will have more than others but the people writing huge checks will only do it for so long if their team isn't winning. $ can certainly help you buy a good team but it is no guarantee. Look at KU this year, they have spent a fortune and have under achieved. Let's help ORU get enough $ to pay the athletes but then lean on our intangible assets to build something special.

  4. I have come to the disappointing conclusion that NCAA Division 1 basketball as we now know it is a game with which I am frustratingly unfamiliar, both on and off the court. Hasty lumbago, friends… ✌

  5. The real season starts tonight with the Jacks visiting JLJ...it's very important that the Good Guys win this series at home vs. a decent SDSU squad....both teams have matching 7-10 records....Jakob Hall on the hill tonight for ORU....GO BLUE!!!

  8. I PM with Josh’s dad on Twitter. Sounds like Josh is making good progress. He had a really good summer. It is a shame he got derailed by injury. I’m optimistic that by May Josh will be hitting on all cylinders and be a big contributor.

  9. I was actually referring to tonight's game, but I guess that also describes the whole season so far.

  10. We had our opportunities, but we could not get clutch hitting when we needed it. Every team has at least one good pitcher, and SDSU's pitcher tonight was very good. We had the winning run at the plate in the eighth and the tying run at the plate (with two RISPs) in the ninth and neither time could we get the hit that we needed. We left Jakob in too long (again) and didn't get him help until it was too late. We are a team that is still finding itself and hopefully we do that before May rolls around.

  13. Well looks like it is now!:) Sorry as didn't realize the rules of where things were supposed to go. Not sure i have started a discussion before. Usually just chime in. Figured it would be something to talk about.

  14. There is never a reason for a coach not to be able to find 2 to 3 minutes per half of rest. No matter what. Between timeouts and short breaks that should be sufficient. Have to be able to catch a break for them. Way too many minutes for both players. Should be a learning season for Coach Springmann. Very big difference sitting in the 1rst chair instead of the 2nd one.

  15. I think taking us from the rough last days of Sutton to two NCAA trips, second ever undefeated conference run, increased enrollment due to basketball success, national recognition, successful transfers to big programs where our name still gets mentioned (Obanor and Abmas), new athletic facilities due to success etc etc. I’m sure those closer to the organization could go on. He didn’t do all of this, but was a big part of it all. Let’s not let his exit make us forget how excited we were when we steamrolled NDSU to complete a perfect season just 11 months ago!
