  1. I disagree. I wouldn’t blame Isaac for not wanting to come back after a tough season, but he would be an asset to any team, including next year‘s Golden Eagles. .

  2. They were loud and proud and I could hear it on the broadcast too. I respect that. No matter the score, a team should keep the energy up and support their teammates at the plate, in the field and on the mound.

  3. Yeah, they were quite boisterous and celebratory. Was a little annoying till I considered that’s actually how it should be: college life, playing sports, roadtrip…even with a L it’s a good life to be enjoyed whilst it can!

  4. Beautiful/slightly chilly evening at JLJ! Strong 2nd plates 5 for the good guys.

  5. Yea, Commissioner Hockey really did us a solid with this Midco/CBS Sports deal. The fan experience is so much better than it was last year. Think about this. Last year: watched every ORU Summit League for free except one or two road games in the Dakotas. Bought ESPN+ and was able to watch many non-conference road games and the Summit League tournament. Replays were readily available at least by the next morning on all platforms. This year: paid a monthly fee to watch all ORU Summit League games. Paid another monthly fee for ESPN+ in order to watch many of ORU's non-conference road games. Replays available 2-3 days later in many cases. Need to continue to pay for both platforms if I want to see all of ORU's baseball games. So for two subscriptions instead of one I got, maybe, 2 road games and lousy replay availability. Let me know if I missed anything.

  6. The Summit has by far the worst media “deal” in D1 basketball. I don’t think the semis are even on CBS Sports.

  8. Would someone please explain why someone would use the word "would" so many times when some other stylistic trope would not read so much like an AI generated recap....would? I mean, how many "woulds" would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck would chuck "would"? https://oruathletics.com/news/2024/3/6/baseball-nichols-4-rbi-night-lifts-orubase-over-cmu.aspx

  9. McBride is a great player. He has had to try to carry this team this year and that can be a heavy load. He was being double teamed every time he tried to drive to the basket (help defense) so he couldn’t score like he is normally used to. That was a smart approach by UMKC. I would love to have McBride for 1 more year!

  10. I am so stinking jealous. I did have great seats for 3 games in Waco. I'm very encouraged with Josh Caravalho's inning of work. Hopefully that is a sign of things to come from that young man.

  11. That may sound like a good idea, but do we want to lose Isaac and Bedford or Herron? A lot of board members like little Trey, but do you really want him as a starting guard next year over Isaac and Bedford? I don't! We need to keep our best players coming back next year, particularly in the back court and that's Isaac and Bedford. If Trey stays fine, but if it's him vs Isaac or Bedford, thanks Trey, good luck and all the best.

  12. I think we need to stop talking about the SLN immediately before NODAK figures it out and starts his bit as the Summit League Network apologist. He's already ruined enough threads on this board IMHO.

  13. ...no follow through on improved production standards as promised. Still the same crappy in-house broadcasts from everyone but the Midco schools and ORU (and frankly, ORU's baseball broadcasts have so far left a lot to be desired, and are not befitting a program that advanced to Omaha last season).

  14. WOW, what exactly is the Summit getting for its "broadcast rights", and I use that term in the loosest sense of the word? It should be no wonder why the rest of the nation views the Summit as a joke. Even such giant leagues of the ASun, MEAC, Patriot and NEC get better coverage. Absolutely pathetic.

  15. Wow, you're right - only the finals are on a national network, and one that is limited to "premium" sports packages & bundles (not basic). Total middle finger from the conference office to the non-Midco markets (which is probably something like 99% of the eyeballs nationwide).

  16. Fortunately for me first pitch against UMass Lowell is at 6:00 PM. I'm assuming the league tournament will have Midco broadcasters so. with any luck, I'll get to enjoy Adam on the call. Y'all enjoy the basketball game!

  17. +1. While I love ORU, I also appreciate the players and staff who give their energy here before leaving. If Issac leaves, I'll be cheering him on elsewhere somewhat similar to how I do Max and a bit of Coach Mills (I know, I know). Not ignoring the fact that it can hurt, but it's just sports sometimes, people have the freedom to change jobs, schools, and employers.

  18. How come no one ever wants Trey to come back for his extra covid year? Just a little humor to lighten up a tough year. Seriously, I thought Trey played with heart in the mop up minutes vs KC. He was flying around the court and hitting a few 3s, which he ended up with 10 points. Trey is not the most talented player but he always gives 100 percent.

  19. He's also seen a good high school friend of his go from being our #2 guy to being nothing more than a practice squad member essentially

  20. I believe the Summit League comes out with its awards this year on Wednesday. I would think McBride, Thompson and Bedford will get some recognition. Kareem is 2nd in steals, 3rd in assists, and 4th in rebounding in the Summit League. Pretty impressive for the senior.

  21. Digging deep here friends but no one else started a thread Admittedly, these first two notes come straight from the ORU game notes. The Chippewas are currently on a 6 game losing streak compared to ORU's 4 game losing streak. I work with a lot of folks that are in Michigan so I understand Central Michigan has been on the road for the entire season so far. They've been spending a lot of time in Texas and Oklahoma having dropped 4 to DBU and 2 to OSU. Both series looked a lot like our trip to Waco. As a team the Chippewas have a slash line of .243/.355/.337. They average 1.6 HBP per game but that will likely go up over the next two game (sorry). Not sure who we will face on the mound but their team ERA is 8.82 and they've given up 1.75 HR per game. Between HBP and BB they average 7 free passes a game so patience at the plate should yield base runners. Getting them in may be a different matter but it is hard to do one without first doing the other. Not sure who we will have on the bump tonight but I have been told that Josh Caravalho has been cleared to pitch so maybe we will see him today or tomorrow. This somewhat poorly written sentence from the game notes has to apply to home games for my man Connor. I would have added at home after "scoreless relief" Conner Floyd looks to continue his dominance at JL Johnson Stadium. The right-handed reliever has thrown 8.2 innings of scoreless relief dating back to last season. This doesn't seem to be a very threatening squad coming into JLJ but I just checked their RPI and at 209 they are above us on the chart, 278. They appear to be a Summit caliber team so if we can't take two from these guys at home that could be a sign of trouble brewing. Let's right the ship and go into the UMass Lowell series with some momentum!

  22. I thought Jeff did a fantastic job on play-by-play. Sorry; not sorry. As for Diamond Dave Garrett, I sure hope he's in attendance at Beautiful J.L. and not trying to do the job off the video feed. An ORU player just hit an RBI single to the outfield with multiple runners on base, and all we saw on the broadcast was the Chippewa pitcher backing up home plate. It was literally the only place on the field where there WASN'T any action on the play.

  23. That's good news. We had the Drillers broadcaster fill in for Adam earlier in the season. He was fine but he is rather low energy. Apparently he's also the PA announcer at baseball games. Perhaps he's more to @Old Titan's taste compared to the Mabee Center PA announcer.

  24. Top of the 4th and the Golden Eagles have a 3-0 lead but, stop me if you've heard this before, 8 left on base! Ruthardt in the midst of his longest effort for ORU. He was sharp the first time through order but has given up two hits so far in the 4th as he attempts to navigate the order for the second time.

  25. Geez...whoever wrote that is clearly not an ORU Comm Arts major.....and hopefully not on the Oracle Staff.....very painful indeed......and good to know that the Good Guys are 4-0 when scoring 10+ runs.....but unfortunately we are 1-7 when scoring less then 10 runs......

  27. OK TheEagleman will stand corrected on this one.....we will hope McBride comes back but the way the season has ended it sounds unlikely....still we shall see what happens.....ORU still needs some more talent and maybe some new coaches??

  28. CMU is not a terrible team. The Chips are predicted to finish third in the MAC, and took 3 of 4 on the road at Stephen Freaking Austin during the opening week, before being (as expected) handily swept at both DBU and OSU. I noticed on the broadcast that they were quite upbeat in the dugout even down eight runs in the late innings, and then discovered that they scored ten runs in the ninth inning during one of their comeback wins against SFA. Fortunately, history was not repeated tonight.

  29. Well the Golden Eagles bounced back and rewarded the faithful with a big win tonight against the Chips. Josh Caravalho pitches a flawless 3 up 3 down first inning throwing, I think, only 10 pitches. ORU jumps on the Chips early and often with 5 runs in the second and 2 in the third. Things got a little wonky with Central MI getting 3 in the 4th but the outcome was never really in doubt in my mind. The runs just keep coming and ORU ends up winning 15-5. Good bounce back for the team. Hopefully we keep the momentum going tomorrow.
