  2. I think he could win newcomer of the year in the Summit League, with a strong finish. The only guy with better numbers is USD's Lahat Thionne who transferred from UCF. He averages 13.6 points and 9.9 rebounds. J.B. has somewhat softened the blow of losing Max at the two guard spot. He will never be in Max's league or the kind of scorer Midcourt was but still he has helped to form a strong 1-2 punch in the backcourt with Isaac McBride. On a side note: Bedford has had the most impact for a juco player in his first year with ORU since Robert Jarvis in 2007-08. Jarvis in the first year from juco averaged 16 points and 2 rebounds while winning the 6th man of the year award. Not bad company to be a part of!

  3. As long as Coach can find another 6'9 power forward who averages 26 points and 11 rebounds (Kevin Durant's first year at Texas). Then ORU will just be fine next season!

  4. Not hitting .210 and coming off injury? I believe Trevi would have risked more than made in arbitration. Plus, I doubt he wanted to leave the Yankees just yet. They are the creme of the crop in organizations. Until Jose is allowed to test the markets, he will continue to make the pay grade provided by the union. Regardless, I'm sure he isn't crying that he is only making $2.7 million doing what he loves to do.

  5. Yeah, it’s gotta be one of those reasons, it can’t be that ORU teams are typically not physical.

  6. From the first game this season it was clear that Bedford deserved to be a starter. Just a very reliable player who you can trust whenever he is on the floor and a great addition to the team this year indeed.

  7. Looks like a very nice solid player. Doesn't let the game speed him up and good handles and passing ability. Those are solid type of guys that can help teams win.

  8. To get superstars will no doubt cost a fortune and that probably won't happen at ORU. I believe ORU will find the right balance. Think about this , ORU went toe to toe with Texas Tech, K State and Texas A+M and considering how much these schools spent in NIL $ compared to us we did pretty good! Just because a school spends a fortune on NIL deals doesn't guarantee a championship team. Finding the diamonds in the rough and developing players will be huge for us. Then add the intangibles like a coach who is honest and ethical, one who knows how to motivate their players and keep egos in check so they fight and play together as a team. $ can buy a team talent but not necessarily the intangibles. As long as we raise enough $ and keep our core values pure we should be fine.

  9. Wade Johnson probably knows. Wade was friends with Winslow's son (also named Jim) and Jim Jr. helped Wade in the scuba classes at ORU. I don't remember a lot about Jim Jr., but he once told me that the reason his dad was no longer at ORU was because he was one of the few people in the inner circle brave enough to tell Oral "no".

  10. Those guys cost around $1 million per year in today's market. Back in KD's day, Texas may not have been the winning bidder, even with the relationship that Russ and KD created.

  11. To answer your question, barring injuries to key players, ORU will win the Summit, the post season tournament and make it back to the regionals in June. We lost a lot and we gained a lot. Key "gets" for this season include an outfielder from Tennessee, a catcher from Arizona, and a shortstop from Wichita State. The middle of the field defense should still be strong, the pitching should be in tact (if there aren't any arm troubles), and the hitting should pick up where we left off. If Ryan gets us back to the super regionals again, he is going to be a very hot commodity.

  12. Like the rest of you, I was pleasantly surprised when I watched Bedford play his first game in an ORU uniform at UT Arlington - and he continues to impress me. Kinda like the 2000-2021, season when I first saw a JUCO transfer from East Central Community College named Kareem Thompson.

  13. I’m not sure if his impact was as pronounced as Jarvis but Michael Craion had a great first season at ORU coming from a juco and I believe he also won newcomer of the year back in 2010. Bedford has been a great addition, I honestly can’t imagine how poor our offense could have been without him.

  14. Winslow was an interesting guy who definitely had Oral's ear back in the day. But, needless to day, he didn't follow the approach of "staying in your lane".

  15. Clearly all officials who come in to Mabee Center must be Atheists or Agnostics.....because ORU is always getting hosed....or maybe it's still the 900 foot Jesus thing.....OR didn't do us any favors with that......

  16. Bedford's stat line: PPG: 14.5 (13.9 in conference) FG%: 44.1% (38.5% in conference) 3pt%: 41.8% (highest percentage of the starters) - (36.8% in conference) FT%: 77.1% (85.2% in conference) Rebs: 6.7 (7.4 in conference)

  17. Sounds like just about everyone (including us) watched the Texas game last night to see Max play. I was a bit surprised when Max inbounded the ball for that final play, thinking they'd want the ball in his hands at that point. But that was probably a bit of deception, or at least a means of keeping defense on Max minimized, because the ball immediately ended up back in his hands as he came onto the court. Very nicely done. Just too bad he missed the shot.

  18. I'm hoping that's a typo on the contract numbers...
