  1. I'm going to have a hard enough time keeping @MrsSmith in line!

  2. ORU has won only one regional game in the last ten years. Until ORU can go 2-2 in a regional, or win a regional outright and get to another Super Regional, the program will continue to be looked upon as being in a low-major, one-bid conference without any second thoughts by the selection committee (IMHO).

  3. ...and until they tweak the process, this should put to rest (for now) any conjecture that ORU would have/will ever rank an at-large bid should they stumble in the Summit League tournament. Let's face it: this lazy committee is looking for any reason possible to include as many P5's as possible, and they don't mind shafting any non-P5 to do it.

  4. I have a hunch most of the team is Ok with 2 hours less bus time each day, and one of every players road trip favorites...the per diem $$.

  5. Captain Hook for the win! There was a good discussion about RPI on the selection show yesterday. The Committee Chair, John Cohen, even made reference to cancellations near the end of the season "because of some RPI reasons" and said "that's something that we need to address." Duh! So punish a school like OU that participated in that bad behavior and send a message. After that interview there was a spirited discussion about how poor a measure the RPI is. Kyle Peterson called out Indiana State's RPI, 9, vs their record 2-9 record against the RPI top 50. Mike Rooney used a comparative of NC State and UC Santa Barbara. Here's what the chart looked like. His point was how can UCSB be 33 spots behind the Wolf Pack? NC State UC Santa Barbara 35-15 W-L 35-20 10-17 vs Top 50 6-4 23 RPI 56 So the formula is broken and it especially undermines ORU's ability to build a resume that will appeal to the committee. That having been said, many comments in this thread are spot on. If ORU wants the committee to look past the RPI and look closer at the body of work and the talent, we need to consistently outperform our seeding. It is really that simple. Go 2-2 or even win a regional or two as a 4 seed and you prove to the committee you were underseeded. Go 0-2 or even 1-2 as a 4 seed and the committee will conclude we were seeded correctly.

  6. TheEagleman thinks that the only chippyness would be in the stands....I could envision OKCEagle and Texasgrip going at it with a few rowdy OSU fans who have had too many Budweisers.....might need Bogus or Old Titan sitting with those two to keep them in line.....

  7. I am confident that ORU will sell out of their ticket allotment. I doubt that we will get more tickets as I would expect the OSU faithful to pack the house. I am hopeful that the game doesn't get chippy and turn the game into anything other than a good battle between two good, disciplined teams. As far as playing our best, most complete game, I believe that we have the talent (although not the most highly sought after) to compete with the three other teams in this regional. We have offense, defense, pitching, and confidence. We have to minimize the mistakes - not deliver the bad pitches that can knock the ball over the fence and minimize fielding errors,- while taking advantage of the opponent's miscues. We have four good starting pitchers with a stable of relievers that can impact a game. I wouldn't be surprised to see Josh Carvalho start game 1 because of his success in his mid-week game earlier this season; however, baseball is a game of superstition and following the normal rotation (with the exception of Gollert being in the #1 hole like at the SL tournament) is probably more the case - saving Josh for the follow up game with OSU. I still believe that we will make some noise in this regional, but we need to guard against laying an egg and going 0-2 by staying focused and true to what got us in this position today.

  8. I agree Bogus Smith. If we want respect we are going to have to earn it on the field. Start winning games in the Big Dance and the Committee should pay us more respect in the future. We do have a nice history and have made it in the past all the way to the College World Series. However, that has been quite a while ago and as Bogus stated, we have only won one Regional game in the last ten years. It is time we step up to the plate (pun intended). GO GOLDEN EAGLES!!!

  9. Some interesting observations from the bracket: Stillwater: DBU (a 2 seed) has a better RPI than Oklahoma State (1 seed) Terre Haute: North Carolina (a 3 seed) has a better RPI than its first round opponent Iowa (2 seed). Of course, this doesn't really matter except for the color of the jersey and who bats first/last. Stillwater and Terre Haute brackets have the best average RPIs of the teams in their regional (avg. 36), which some might say equates to the "toughest" regional. But for me, the "deathstar regional" is in Columbia, SC, which has three teams in the Top 25 RPI - South Carolina (8), Campbell (13) and NC State (23). LSU received by far the easiest draw. The #2 seed Oregon State has the worst RPI of any second seed (and worse than five three seeds)! The #3 seed Sam Houston has the worst RPI of any third seed. And, the #4 seed Tulane has the worst RPI of any fourth seed. That is ridiculous - how does the committee allow this to happen??? The last two seasons, the committee developed a bracket with super-regionals without conference match-ups (that is, if both regional hosts advance, they would play a team from another conference in the super-regional). This season, the committee has set-up two potential all-SEC super regionals (South Carolina/Florida and LSU/Kentucky). While I realize that it is more difficult to avoid conference matchups when EIGHT of the host schools are from the SEC, it still could have been done quite easily. I know that avoiding conference opponents would have meant that there was a possibility of an all-SEC bracket in Omaha. But, if the SEC is that powerful, then they deserve the chance to prove it. As it is now, we know that at least ONE non-SEC school will be in Omaha, as the Coastal/Virginia brackets have no SEC teams among the eight participants.

  10. It is possible that as WSU has gotten to know Coach Mills, there may be things they both like and dislike. So they may not want to double dip in the ORU basket. I would think there is a vast array of coaching options from assistants at Big Power 5 programs to head coaches from several mid-major conferences. I would start with Rob Walton if I were them.

  11. Very poor vetting job by the selection committee. The first thing that they should be looking at is the available hotel rooms - not only for the teams but for the fans that they want to attract to the games. #LazyWork

  13. This is about as good a set up as ORU could have hoped for....our first game is against a team we are familiar with and have beaten....DBU is better than us but at least we have seen them and should be able to compete....the Huskies not sure but Washington not a Top 25 team....so coming out of this Stillwater Regional isn't impossible but still a tall task....frankly, TheEagleman fears Dallas Baptist more then OSU and Washington but it will not be easy to defeat the Pokes in Game 1 on their home field in front of a rabid crowd....hopefully a few hundred dedicated Golden Eagle Fans will make the trip for vocal support....Good Guys will have to play their best and most complete game of the season to win.....GO BLUE!!!

  14. This was the day that Jose went on the 10-Day IL. He should be coming off that tomorrow and traveled with the team to Seattle, so will probably play.

  15. GUARANTEED that Ryan Folmar will be on the short list. It will be hard for ORU to compete with the financial resources available to WSU Athletics.

  16. Those 2 losses to ORU probably didn't help......wonder if they will consult a certain basketball coach?????

  17. IMHO the selection committee isn't being lazy, they are doing exactly what the NCAA wants and that is everything possible to keep the SEC happy, so they remain in the NCAA. SEC commissioner Stanky is the most powerful person in college sports, and the NCAA is horrified he will take the SEC more specifically SEC football out of the NCAA and become a stand-alone entity. When you have GA, Bama, Auburn, LSU, FL, Tenn, A&M, Ark and soon TX and OU football your TV money is almost limitless, and they could form their own CFP playoff rival playoff that would draw much better ratings than a combined all non-SEC college football playoff. Unfortunately, football TV money is by far the NCAA's most important priority! So yes, the SEC holds all the cards, the other P5's are next in line and the mid-majors are at the bottom of the food chain, not saying it's right, but that's the way it is. So, waiting for any favors or benefit of the doubt from any NCAA selection committee is going to happen unless we win in the NCAA post season. Any success we are to have, we are going to have to obtain the old-fashioned way... on the field! Let's start this weekend in Stillwater, Go Eagles!!

  22. I must admit that I was initially deeply disappointed in the #4 seed. The committee talks about how it focuses on RPI, but also looks at seasonal trends as a team improves (or declines) throughout the year. There are 15 teams in the tourney field with RPIs worse than ORU, which puts ORU at the top of the #4 seeds and right on the cusp of a #3 seed. I thought that the 26-1 record over the last half of the year (including a sweep of Oklahoma State and a road win at Wichita) would be enough momentum to put ORU on the 3 seed line. But, since the lowest 16 RPI teams are also the 16 #4 seeds in the tourney, I must conclude that the committee really doesn't take a lot of time and research on the #4 seeds, but simply slots them as a 4 based upon RPI and then assigns them to a regional by proximity. But, in hindsight, Stillwater is the best place for ORU to have a solid fan presence - and I'd much rather have ORU as a 4 playing a team that they are 2-0 against than as a 3 seed playing a team that swept ORU in a March weekend series. Bring on the Pokes!

  23. It’s embarrassing and bad look for a host team. They took a page from the Summit League on that one. Now let’s hope we clean house @ Stillwater and advance. #GoldenStandard

  24. would like to see that whittled down to those that won both the regular season and postseason titles for their league in both sports. can't imagine there are more than one or two schools besides ORU to accomplish that.

  25. ORU easily the smallest school on the list; one of only three mid-majors (Xavier, Louisiana).
