St. Mary’s makes a huge comeback and beats Gonzaga 78-70 in OT. This won’t help ORU on the conference undefeated map, but should benefit the overall NET ranking. If the 78-70 score sounds familiar, it matches the ORU-SMC score on opening night.6 points

I was asked this morning if the boys in blue could make another NCAA run. Even though Onanor was a key part of that run. This year’s team is a lot better than that NCAA tournament team. Well is say this, they are more of a complete team. Let’s just hope this team is not peaking - there’s a lot of ball to play and improvement. March should be fun!6 points

From the column: “Coinciding with the Hurricane depression are happy days at rival Oral Roberts. Before Saturday’s Summit League assignment at Kansas City, ORU was 46-17 in its last 63 games. In advance of Sunday’s Wichita State game, Tulsa is 27-49 in its last 76 games.” But we are not, I repeat not, passing them.4 points

It does help. At a net ranking of #38 after SMC beats the Zags, and ORU takes out KC by 28 on the road.4 points

I can hear ORU fans on the broadcast, during Allen's free throws!! Keep it up guys!4 points

So, I guess ORU has finally met its goal of being “just like Gonzaga”.3 points

I've watched a lot of Big 10, SEC and ACC games lately (trying to access potential #5 Seeds if ORU is a #12) and I've been shocked at the poor play by a lot of these otherwise-talented teams. I think part of the problem for these P5 schools is their rosters are so young, due to early exits for the NBA and the transfer portal to supposedly-greener pastures. Or maybe it's just poor/lazy coaching. For whatever reason, these teams are wild, sloppy, inconsistent and far down the rungs of the basketball IQ ladder. With the way ORU is playing defense these days, I relish the opportunity to see what might be achieved against one or two of these so-called "big boys" should ORU advance to the NCAA tournament.3 points

I heard you loud and clear when Jurgens got called for the second foul in the 2nd half!3 points

ORU will be extremely competitive vs. most 4, 5 and 6 seeds because of our experience.....we can win....2 points

Also, if ORU stubs their proverbial toe in Sioux Falls, that UNM game shows the selection committee that ORU did all they could to play the best teams possible, even during the season. That sort of "anybody/anywhere/anytime" approach helps separate the at-large candidates.2 points

There are those who are demanding a rethinking of the NCAA NET algorithm, which rewards margin-of-victory regardless of the opponent. But until that happens in the next season or two, ORU is reaping the benefit with its whopping 21.8 scoring margin in 12 conference games so far.2 points

Our average margin of victory in the Summit this season is 22.16 points. Over the last 4 games it's 33. According to the announcer, the 2nd best team in the Summit (coming in to tonight) was UMKC at like 3.5 points. I wonder if there will be anyone left with a margin of victory.2 points

Apparently some of them still haven’t realized it. We got lucky with Max blah blah blah. Sounds like some of them have been reading The Mitchell Report.2 points

I am really impressed with these two announcers. They are giving a lot of credit to ORU. Michael Watson is a very classy announcer.2 points

HoopPowerAnalytics.com has ORU as an 80/20 favorite to upset a No. 5 Seed as a No. 12 Seed... #wow1 point

Hard to believe, but if ORU hadn’t adjusted its schedule mid-season to add the game at New Mexico, the Golden Eagles would have the nation’s longest current win streak, at 18 games (besting Eastern Washington’s 14 game streak). In hindsight, adding the extra game in Albuquerque was brilliant, as it releases the team from the extra pressure of keeping a historic win streak alive, while making the team even hungrier for what is to come in March.1 point

I somehow missed this tweet from earlier in the week, which is a shame because Greg Mitchell nails it, particularly Paul Mills for Coach of the Year - bravo!1 point

Wow! Mark Few and Randy Bennett have faced each other 57 times!1 point

MR_25, it's great to have your insights and commentary! Really appreciated! These guys look really really good to me, but after watching that clip, I'm not sure we have played a team like yours this season besides Houston! These guys have Sweet sixteen potential, obviously it depends on few games yet to be played, as well as who we draw in the tournament, but we look capable right now of beating several top 25 teams. Seems like this team has weaknesses, but also proven they are capable of learning/developing rapidly, so I hope we are able to continue to do that. What do you feel like this team has to improve on to give us the best shot at another tourney run?1 point

Another A+++ game from the Eagles. They out rebounded KC by 8 and held them to 3-11 from three point range. That is the game plan to beating the Roos. Good to see the guys off the bench such as Weaver, Patrick, and Trey helping out. They have been a little up and down of late. Complete win and just solid play in every facet of the game.1 point

Road wins were the name of the game in the Summit today, as the visiting team won four of the five games, causing a significant shift in the +/- analysis. ORU extends its lead further, and Western and St. Thomas made their claim for the upper tier of the conference. But, the Necks and Tommies ascendance into 'Plus" territory may be short-lived, as they will be challenged to hold their home court advantage during next week's action against KC and ORU. Meanwhile, is there a wilder roller coaster ride than the "USD Coyote experience" over the past ten days? USD loses by 3 at Western, breaks St. Thomas' home winning streak, is pummeled in historic fashion at ORU, knocks off NDSU at home, then falls to Summit league bottom feeder North Dakota. Crazy... ORU +4 SDSU +1 Western +1 St Thomas +1 NDSU - even KC - 1 Denver -2 USD -2 Omaha -4 UND - 10 seed1 point

Good effort so far. We are definitely doing better at containing their scorers. Getting out of hand quickly... these guys don't seem to mind getting blocked by conner, which is nice as a fan to watch1 point

Getting on the road to head to KC now. Excited to get in their coach's head again tonight.1 point

It includes our old nemesis Ron Hunter falling off his stool when his son hits the game-winning shot. Also includes a shot of Coach Mills and the rest of the Baylor bench watching, then grimacing as the shot went in. Actually a pretty cool fusion of past and present.1 point

Why are still even talking about these guys? We have way bigger fish to fry now.1 point

Would love to do Saurday breakfast/brunch at ORU Athletics sponsor Daybreak Cafe (previously First Watch) on the southwest corner of 81st and Lewis. Let me put it this way: I'll be there that morning regardless, if anyone cares to join me. If you want to try to fit dinner in Friday, I'll be there, too - I eat three squares a day.1 point

Romano signs a one-year deal for $4.538 million to avoid arbitration. A substantial increase from the $710K paid in 2022. Good to see our former student-athletes succeeding in their craft. Blue Jays' Jordan Romano: Reaches deal with Toronto1 point
