  3. I think where we stray from ORU's misson is in thinking we need to find incoming freshmen - for athletics or ANY pursuit - who are "ready for the choir" the day they enroll. I think ORU best serves it's purpose when it brings in bright young people who are looking for personal growth, in mind, body and spirit, and are willing to let ORU do a great work in their lives. Some of the most disenchanted people I have ever met who either attended or worked at ORU came in with (what I would call) a Christian agenda of their own, and were disappointed when the school didn't meet their unrealistic expectations. And, consequently, some of ORU's staunchest believers turn out to be those who came here for reasons other than the school's mission, and were nonetheless profoundly impacted by the school in the long run.
