Old Titan
As originally discussed in the "Wade Mason To SFA" thread, former OSU point guard and Texas-San Antonio head coach Brooks Thompson has been battling multiple organ failure. Now comes the news that Brooks has passed away, at age 45: Brooks was very good friends with Scott and Sean Sutton, as mentioned in the story. Here is a heartfelt tribute from another former OSU player, Doug Gottlieb:
ORUJason
The strange thing about this story is that there is no information about what originally led to the multi-organ failure. A 45 year old person does not just suddenly have several organs that stop functioning. Usually there is a drug-resistant bacterial infection that leads to a blood-borne infection that starts affecting organs throughout the body. Then at one point it seemed that he had recovered to the point that he was released from the hospital, only to end up with sepsis and having to be re-hospitalized within a few days. Clearly they thought they had resolved the infection but they hadn't. Hospitals are so focused on getting patients out of the hospital sooner, and sometimes this is the result. This is definitely a very sad story and I feel for his family and friends.
