Hankins has been named the new head coach at Central Oklahoma University in Edmond.

He and his family are very excited to be coming home! Wish him the very best.

Thought ya'll would like to know. :)

Any speculation as to why this happened? Seems like a strange move to me and I'm sure his coaching expertise will be missed.

That's been a very hard job up there as I don't think they realized just how bad a shape the program was in and if they don't improve the seat will get hot up there.

He and his family have really missed OK  and are very glad to be back and he is ready to be the head guy.

Pretty good program and I think he will do great there.

Yeah I guess we will see how much longer Barry makes it up there as well. Hopefully they can turn it around but the MVC is a competitive league and it is certainly an uphill battle.

TheEagleman is very happy for Coach Hankins and his family.....is UCO a Juco or will he not be able to steer players to ORU from there?....at least maybe we can schedule a game or two with them in the near future.....as for Hinson...he's not long for SIU unless he turns it around soon....Hankins probably got out while he had the opportunity..... :nerd:

UCO is NCAA Division 2. It is in Edmond so there should be a good pool of players to pull from in the OKC area. They are fairly successful at their level in other sports.

An exhibition game with UCO may be in our future.

Smart move on Tom's part.

Mario Moccia, the AD who hired Barry Hinson, left SIU in mid-season for New Mexico State.

SIU announced earlier this month that Western Illinois AD Tommy Bell is taking that job with the Salukis.

Can't imagine Bell won't want to bring in his own guy, unless Barry does something spectacular this coming season.

You never know:  he might even make the move NOW.

Wonder if ORU and UCO will schedule an exhibition game?

Wonder if either camp would want it?

The fans are restless up there as you can tell from their message board.:)

He probably has this year and maybe 1 more to get turned around at most. They are still paying the previous coach $700,000 a year so they aren't going to pay 3 coaches so he is ok for now.

Hank was ready to come back as was his family. Gonna need to get a few kids from OKC and also some decent transfers .

Who is Bell's "own guy?"  His Western Illinois teams have stunk up the joint for years.

"own guy" = his own (eventual) hire.

Never seen an AD yet who enjoys making excuses to boosters/media/etc. for a struggling coach he had no part in hiring in the first place.

Agreed but Bell sure hasn't shown he can hire good coaches based on his Western Illinois hirings.

Oh, I thought Jim Molinari was a decent coach.  His style was very old school, but he knew what he was doing.  Nebraska must have felt the same way:  they hired him away from WIU as an associate head coach to Tim Miles.  Not sure whether or not Bell hired him at Western, though...
