IUPUI vs. ORU rd 1

TheEagleman spent the snow day on Thursday breaking down extensive film of IUPUI and came to the following conclusion about why the Jags are 10-20 (6-10 summit).....they stink.....these guys are one of the lowest scoring teams in the nation at only 61 PPG and have no players averaging in double figures....the closest is 6-5 Marcellus Barksdale at 9.7 per game.....they are about the same size as ORU so no real advantage inside....ORU won both matchups this season and it's true that we were fortunate to win at Mabee Center two months ago in OT....but the 2nd game in Indianapolis was a double digit Golden Eagle win.....it has been pointed out that it's tough to beat a team 3 times in one season.....and this ORU team has been up and down all year....we never know what we are going to get....two wins at home last week still don't make TheEagleman comfortable saying that this should be an easy win....it won't be....it will likely be low scoring and sloppy.....but the difference is Obi Emegano.....TheEagleman expects a big game from the junior from Edmond....and if IUPUI doubles him up as expected we will need some scoring from Word and Henderson....maybe Harris and Young also chip in a few points...but in the end I expect ORU to advance to the 2nd round on Monday night with a 64-57 victory.....hey, even TheEagleman doesn't expect the Good Guys to be playing on national TV come Tuesday night....getting to the final is unlikely....but you never know....let's take them one at a time and see what happens....I also expect NDSU to handle Denver probably by 10-15 points.....so we should be going up vs. the Bison on Monday.....with SDSU vs. IPFW in the other semi...... :nerd:

ORU is a 4.5 point favorite over IUPUI tonight.....TheEagleman isn't comfortable enough to lay those points....I do believe ORU will win but could be a close game.....also IPFW is a 3 point favorite over South Dakota tonight.....the Mastadons have been playing good ball....I do like them over the Coyotes tonight.... :nerd:

Some really bad basketball so far from ORU and IUPUI.  Jags by 2 just before the half in a sloppy affair.  Poor shooting by both squads.

Similar rosters, similar talent, similar coaching - anybody's game.

ORU takes  27-25 lead into the break despite only 6 points from Emegano....Young leads the Good Guys with 8.....so despite not getting much from our leading scorer and playing sloppy ball we are still in the lead....we all thought this would be an ugly affair....this will probably go down to the final seconds....will likely come down to the FT line again....oh boy....

This is too close for comfort. We need Obi to get on track and we need some separation. A few offensive rebounds wouldn't hurt.

You know it's a snoozer when the best thing the announcers can say out of the break in a tie ballgame is that the ORU band is really good...

....and when they panned the band, a geriatric trombone player was yawning.  ORU makes zero pretense of stocking any of that band with actual students.

ORU clinging to a 1-point lead, with the ball, under a minute to go.

Last two possessions, Denell fumbled the ball away on an outlet pass, and Obi dribbled the ball off his foot driving the baseline.

This game will NOT be on ESPN Classic anytime soon.

good on Obi for knocking down FTs late on a poor shooting night and good on Coach Sutton for fouling up 3.

survive and advance!

Just as predicted....a VERY sloppy game but a win for ORU 58-56.....not pretty but we live to play another game vs. NDSU tomorrow.....the Bison will be much tougher than tonight's opponent....Obi ends up with 14 points to lead the team despite 1-9 shooting....but he got the job done at the FT line in the final moments....Word and Young both get 10.....Conley and Henderson 9 each.....Go Blue!....

Tomorrow would be a fun day for an ORU fan Brookings...we got the ORU ladies vs. SDSU in the afternoon semi final and then ORU men vs. NDSU at night in the 2nd semi final.....and that SDSU-SD opening mens game tomorrow night should be VERY interesting....probably won't be an empty seat in the building.... :nerd:

The teams have been off for a week, so I'm going to chalk the sloppiness up to a little rust. Look to see a more inspired and aggressive Obi tomorrow night. NDSU will take a cue from IUPUI and harass him all game, but I am expecting a better performance.
