ORU at SDSU

Tough tough game tonight in Brookings......as has been pointed out on this board, the Jackrabbits have won every Summit home game by double digits this season....honestly, TheEagleman can't see ORU breaking that trend tonight....our play has been so inconsistent this year...our only hope is to get huge games from the big 2 and a big effort inside from Henderson....we are also gonna need points off the bench from Word/Webber and a few 3 balls from Harris....ORU hung around and played SDSU tough at Mabee Center last month but in the end the Jacks won by 4 and were clearly the better team......i haven't seen the line tonight and I know that Vegas seems to give ORU a lot of respect still....so I expect that the Jacks will be favored by around 6 points....if the line is around there it would seem to me to be a no brainer to take SDSU and cash that ticket.....would love to see our guys play a great game and steal one tonight but really I am not feelin' it......SDSU  79  ORU 68..... :|

opened at SDSU -7 and bet to -9.5.

i think i said SDSU was probably 12-15 pts better than ORU in their gym after they won in Mabee.  nothing we have seen since has changed my mind.  if the ORU team shows up that played against USD at home, i think SDSU could boat race ORU tonight.

EDIT: crazy movement on for a mid/low major game....back down to -7.5 in a matter of hours.   the gambling degenerates must have really liked ORU getting 9.5 pts.

Good info, Alum....SDSU should win this game by 10+...perhaps as much as 15-18....i will be tempted to grab the Jacks....but TheEagleman hates betting against his boys..... :nerd:

TheEagleman got SDSU -.7.5 tonight....I am already counting my money....cha-ching....I rarely bet 3 games in one day but today I could not resist Kentucky -25 over Auburn (Wildcats won by 35+)....South Dakota -6 over IUPUI (Coyotes won by 15) and now it appears that the Jacks are "boat racing" ORU....big day for TheEagleman....I am scaring myself....now 24-2 in college basketball this season....which more than makes up for a subpar NFL showing last fall..... :nerd:

Yeah, this game reminded me a lot of those Valpo loses on the road when ORU first joined the Mid-Con: big, aggressive teams that got away with murder playing on their home floor, but (surprise, surprise) dropped off considerably on the road. (Those Valpo teams that won by 20 at their place all lost in the return game in Tulsa - in fact, Valpo NEVER beat ORU at the Mabee Center or the UMAC).

But those Valpo teams were pretty good: twice they were NCAA 12 Seeds and once made it to a Sweet Sixteen. They were fixtures as Mid-Con champions before Homer Drew retired the first time.

In comparison, this SDSU team is a run-of-the-mill 16 Seed (if they win the tournament in Sioux Falls), and they wlll lose by 20 in the NCAA first round against a Duke or a Gonzaga. Do not mistake them for NDSU last year, or Stephen F. Austin the past two seasons.

That being said, they are WAY ahead of where ORU needs to be to compete for a Summit League title. Bigger, tougher, and more aggressive on both ends of the floor. Their win over ORU in Tulsa was much more indicative of the gap between the two teams right now than tonight's travesty.

The message from either of those losses is clear: ORU has to totally rethink their roster and their style of play in the Summit League, or nightmares like this in the Dakotas are going to become an annual event.

While Denell and Albert have shown flashes, Brandon seems to have regressed and honestly there has been very little apparent development of our big men. This team is not improving offensively because there is so much scoring pressure on Obi and Korey. An opponent can focus on taking Obi and Korey out of the game and the rest of the team seems incapable of consistently picking up the slack.

This team also seems to have regressed defensively. At home games I still see the players giving maximum effort but at times they lose their movement on the floor and also stop driving to the hole. This team is most successful when they drive aggressively because if you don't score then Summit League refs normally reward you with a foul.

It is a shame that we may be wasting Obi and Korey while they are in their prime because there isn't enough other developed talent around them. Hopefully this will be as bad as it gets and things will start improving from here.

Such an embarrassing loss last night...TheEagleman did not expect ORU to win but I didn't think we would pack it in early and show no heart at all....as pointed out above.....this is NOT the best SDSU team of the past decade....but I guess I now realize that this appears to be the worst ORU team of the last decade.....we are just not very good and not built to win in the Summit League.....Coach Sutton and his staff need to look at this result and learn as they hit the recruiting trail...otherwise we will continue to absorb these kind of beatings.....Owens getting 18 was a bright spot however....appears that the kid has some skills..... :nerd:

What still bothers me (and will continue to bother me) was the utter lack of intensity and urgency on display.

The gulf in aggresiveness and sense of purpose between the two teams was immense.

Practically everyone's body language for ORU was terrible, from the players right down to the coaching staff.

Look, when you're getting it handed to you on the road like that, and nothing seems to be going right, it's a time for desperation, NOT despair.

The choice is yours:  YOU control your EFFORT.

You can either go down swinging, or go down looking at every pitch with your bat on your shoulder.

Saturday night, there were WAY too many guys - on the court and on the sidelines - who looked like they didn't even want to be in the batter's box...

Maybe I'm way off base here, but from before the tip I felt like something was different about Coach Scott Sutton.....just something about his body language and the fact that he wasn't wearing a tie...

I've watched just about every game that has been on ESPN3 this year, and I now I could be wrong, but I'm not sure if I've ever not seen him wearing a tie..

I realize what took place on the court is more important, just an observation...
