ORU at Denver

The Golden Eagles travel to the Mile High City to take on the University of Denver tomorrow night....the host Pioneers have dropped to 8-10 and after a decent start to the season have lost 4 of 5.....they are coming off an easy win over Western Illinois but have been off for the past week.....Denver isn't very big and they don't score much just 63 points per game....but amazingly they are 11th in the nation in shooting percentage at 49%...go figure....I guess it comes down to the usual....which ORU team shows up....the team that defeated Omaha, Tulsa and New Mexico State?.....or the team that struggled to score at Oregon State, Missouri State and Oklahoma.....let's face it....Denver isn't very good but ORU has proved you don't have always have to play your top game to beat us......As usual we are going ot need our best players to shine....it was impressive that we were able to win over IPFW despite just 7 pts from Korey Billbury....TheEagleman expects him to be back up around his usual 15 per game and Obi, well we really need 20 or more from him....this might be another game where Henderson can score a bit inside....and Bobby Word has been inconsistant...ORU will require double figures from him tomorrow night to win....Aaron Young seems to have risen to the challenge since Coach Sutton inserted him in the starting line up....but this could and should be another ugly game....if ORU can get off to a decent start and make Denver have to come from behind, TheEagleman likes our chances....I think we can gut this one out....a win would go a lot to solidifying ORU's slot as one of the top 3 Summit League teams and get us on the roll we need before facing SDSU at Mabee this weekend....a loss relegates us back to the middle of the Summit pack......Obi and Billbury find a way to score enough points to push ORU to a sloppy 69-65 victory then it's bring on the Jackrabbits!.....Go Blue!!! :eagles:  :eagles:  :eagles:

Watching the game on Root Sports.  On mute.  The announcers are terrible.  We're up 38-32 at the half.

- We shot 73.7% (14-19) in the half

- We're 6-9 from three

- They're shooting 52.2%, 45.5% from three

- Denell's been a man inside so far, making all five of his shots and showing some grown-up moves in the post

- Darian Harris played 14 minutes off the bench and has been excellent.  He's 2-2 from three and has brought the energy.  He might be the best on this team at making the entry pass into the post.  It's been clinical.

- Korey's got nine, and it's been for the most part a quiet nine.

- Obi hasn't scored and has only taken two shots.  Could be the way DU is playing defense against him.  He's still moving but he's a magnet for contact.  He's taken an elbow to the face and been knocked down or fallen down more than once.

Denver's been all about screening and backdoor cutting and shooting the three.  Hopefully we can make some adjustments in the second half and get this road win.

Yeah, BlueGold....ORU up 38-32 at half on 74% shooting.....TheEagleman shocked that we are up six and Obi has been held scoreless....he got two early fouls....hope he is not hurt but not sure....Henderson  has stepped up with 14 points....Billbury has 9 and Harris 6.....Denver is also shooting over 50%.....not sure the Golden Eagles can keep up this torrid pace but if we get anything at all from Emegano in the 2nd half we might be able to steal this game on the road..... :nerd:

meltdown of epic proportions.  1 Singleton FT in the final 7 minutes.    ORU's road woes continue.

Obi disappeared from the game after the front end 1 and 1 miss.  the leader of the team has to demand the ball and force the action.

SDSU coming in on a big time roll Saturday night.

Honestly...it's going to take TheEagleman several days to recover from this one....I was just following the game on my phone and not watching but at the 8 minute mark I was about to put this one in the win column....once again our guys proved that no lead is safe......very very disappointing and with SDSU coming into Mabee Center playing some of their best basketball of the season  we are in big trouble.....not sure our guys can recover from something like this....Saturday night will be a test of their character.....I already know my character......TheEaglemans' stomach is still churning this morning.....but hey.....ORU baseball starts in a couple of weeks....  :|

It is becoming painfully obvious that this team has a serious issue with being able to close a game. More often than not, and especially on the road, we find a way to blow the lead in the closing minutes of a game. I did not get to watch the game last night but from all accounts it involved the same old same old. In other words, we choked when everything was on the line. I am not sure why that happens, but it does and on a regular basis. Further I am not sure what the answer is, but it happens way too often and it needs to be addressed and dealt with ASAP! It is one thing to get blown out, it is quite another to have the game in hand and then choke and end up being defeated.

GO GOLDEN EAGLES!

In the interest of not throwing everyone under the bus (from Obi and Jabbar, all the way to the coaches and World B. Otto), I wanted to wait to post my opinion on this epic collapse until my emotions dropped from a boil to a simmer.

15 hours later, I'm still waiting... :@

Yeah, my dad and I went to the Reynolds Center last night for the TU-Memphis game. We left early in the second half with TU up by 28.

We figured we could get home in time to watch the second half of the ORU-Denver game. I was pumped to hear on the radio that we were up 6 at half time and was feeling much better when the Golden Eagles were up by 12, with 8 minutes to play.

Then...BLAM! Just a miserable night, all the way around.

What's 'funny' about this team is we'll likely beat SDSU on Saturday night and probably beat Denver by 20+, at Mabee, later in the season...

Really??

P.S.  I was at the Reynolds Center last night, also.  Saw Bob pressing the flesh courtside at halftime.  Should have realized you were somewhere in the house, too.

Wow, not your usual Memphis squad, eh?  They run!  They jump!  They miss!  And, miss!  AND, miss again!!

Saw guys from both teams clank breakaway dunks SHORT (both barely jammed bottom of rim, then fell backward embarrassingly).  Looked like a Class 3A pregame lay-up line.

And for that matter, can ANY team in the AAC make a three, or a free throw?
