Golden Eagles on the road tonight at WIU.....the Leathernecks are 7-7 and coming off a thumping at SDSU by 31 points.....however, they did hold serve at home the previous week vs. IPFW and Omaha,,,,,so WIU plays well on the home court.....ORU will need to play much better than we did vs. IUPUI on Wednesday night to come away with a victory here...Obi will be making his first return to his old school since transferring....I would expect him to have some serious motivation tonight even though most of the guys he played with have probably moved on.....WIU's top two scorers are their guards so not a ton of concern inside even though they do have a couple of 6-8 guys.....Sutton has only been going with 7 or 8 players so we need to stay out of foul trouble tonight.....something tells me that Conley will ignore that and be gone before the end.....ORU is a 5 point favorite on the Vegas line....that's a bit too much on the road....this should be more of an EVEN line in my opinion....they are giving the Golden Eagles a bit too much credit....I expect a close game throughout......we could really use a blow out but it likely will not be tonight....I believe the Obi will come to play and if he is anywhere close to 100% should score 20+.....let's all it 66-62 Good Guys.....ORU needs a win to get back to the .500 mark at 8-8...... :nerd:

IUPUI bounces back from heartbreaking loss to ORU and downs Denver.  Denver is now 1-3 in league play.

I've been very satisfied with the officiating in the two league games so far.  Hopefully tonight will follow suit.

Henderson has four 3pt attempts and zero 2pt attempts so far in this game..........why????

Webber and Emegano carry ORU across the finish line after the foul outs.   it wasn't pretty, but it's a road win....good to see ORU grind that one out....really could have broke either way.

Anytime you shoot 34% from the field and foul out three starters - and WIN - ON THE ROAD.... it's a BIG DEAL.  Grinder...

Gutsy, gutsy win!

I paid the $5.95 for the streaming video from the WIU website, and I'm glad I did.  What the game lacked in artistry, it made up for with intensity.  Could not believe some of the foolish fouls Denell and Brandon committed early in the second half:  going over the back on rebounds, backing down right over guys in the block for charges, etc..  And, just when it looked like ORU's perimeter defense might save the day anyway, Korey gets an equally foolish technical for his 5th foul on a play where he got the call, anyway!  smh...

And then, who of all people comes in to save the day?  Adrian "Ace" Webber, one of my candidates for reduced playing time!  He made free throws, he grabbed rebounds, he played defense in the post - he was everywhere!  He and Obi definitely made the difference down the stretch, along with some very steady point guard play from Aaron Young.

Western will beat a lot of people in Macomb this year - that's just a really nice win for ORU tonight.

Obi showed up as expected with 28 points....Webber the only other ORU player in double figures with 11 plus 8 boards....we only got 7 points from Billbury tonight but he had 10 rebounds.....subtract Emegano and the rest of the ORU squad shot a putrid 10-34.....ouch....looks like Coach Sutton read this board and played Young at PG for 33 minutes tonight with Singleton getting only 7.....any win on the road is a good win.....Omaha is next and they got smacked at home today by SDSU 87-68.....hopefully ORU can now get on its' first roll of the season.....Just wondering, was that T against Billbury whistled by Yorkovich???...... :nerd:

Nice win on the road. It took some relatively unlikely lineups and mental toughness to capture this victory. To win a league championship, you have to win games like this.

I've liked what I've seen from Webber. I'm glad he was able to make some important contributions.

I guess Vegas knew what they were doing since ORU covered the spread on the road. Any road win is a great win. Way to go!

Just wondering, was that T against Billbury whistled by Yorkovich???...... :nerd:

On video, it looked like all three refs came running in, blowing their whistles.  At least two of them motioned "T" right off the bat.  They made a much bigger deal of it than it was, but Korey did jump up from under the basket standard and made a run at the guy inder the basket.  It was an emotional and irresponsible move on his part, especially at that juncture of the game.

All three refs were pretty bad.  ORU actually got a couple of good calls from Yorkovich in the first half, on moving screens by WIU away from the ball.  But, he's a classic "home court diva":  he loves making the big, demonstrative call late in the game that gets the home crowd going.  His favorite is the back-down charge on big men in the block, where the defender flops; he used to get Caleb Green, Marcus Lewis, and Damen Bell-Holter for that one all the time.

Bottom line is this:  it was Saturday night in the Summit League, in Macomb, Illinois.  You ain't getting the cream of the crop in that scenario.  According to StatSheet.com, the other two refs, Greg Webb and Jeff Albright, have only called 8 and 9 games respectively at the D-1 level this year, and most of them were in backwaters of the Upper Midwest.  And we never seem to see these guys, including Yorkovich, in Tulsa to call games.  So the only time ORU gets to deal with them is in hostile environments on the road up North, with their backs against the wall.  Kind of hard for the ORU coaching staff to build much rapport with these "Polar Refs" when you only see them in those situations.
