BIG series this weekend for the Golden Eagles......we certainly must win at least 2 of 3 if not sweep in order to get back in contention to make one of the top 8 spots for the Southland Tournament....and SFA is one of the teams we need to leapfrog......so let's hope that ORU is ready to play....tonights' opener is huge with Griller likely taking the mound.....Go Blue!.... :eagles:  :eagles:  :eagles:

let's hope the mid-week momentum from wins over OU and WSU carry over this weekend and ORU can get on a roll...

Giller isn't pitching tonight.  I didn't hear exactly why.  Something about getting more rest - may pitch Sunday.

Giller isn't pitching tonight.  I didn't hear exactly why.  Something about getting more rest - may pitch Sunday.

Coach Folmar told Geoff that because Giller left his last start early due to stiffness in his shoulder they are moving him to Sunday so that Pepe will be available if he has to leave early.  Giller pitched a bullpen session today with no issues.

going to the 7th up 7-1...

ORU mercy rules SFA in the series opener, 11-1....Trujillo goes the seven inning distance for the win helped by 4 hits and 3 RBI for Jose Trevino.....ORU now 17-16 over .500 for the season....that's a great start to the weekend but we need to come back and finish these guys off and win the series!........

ORU ahead 5-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning. Also, ORU has the 2nd best RPI in the Southland. We are in the low 80s and SHSU is in the low 50s.

. . . We just can't WIN it the Southland - currently in 11th place! But we've won the series against SFA at this point, and we're looking for the sweep - first in conference for either this season. Maybe this weekend will get us headed in the right direction in league - still lots of games to play.

The team may have turned a corner this past week.  They held a lead for most of the three games vs. SHSU, were impressive in shutting out OU for the second time in two weeks (in Norman, no less), and have outscored the opposition 27-6 in their last three wins over Wichita State and SFA.  You get sense the guys are really gaining confidence, both on the mound and at the plate.

Here's hoping the roll continues!

Nice pitching over the last several games - along with timely hitting. The guys are playing well now and at the right time.

As of tonight, we are in a four way tie for the #8 spot in the tournament.  It will be a very interesting and competitive second half of the season.

The good guys win 4 to 0. We got great pitching and timely hitting - again. They guys seem to be hitting their stride. According to Haxton, our RPI is now at 65.

how about Pepe's week?   2-0 on 12 shoutout innings in wins over OU and SFA.  he has to be a lock for SLC pitcher of the week.

i knew the Southland was a better league, but did not realize how much better it was until Geoff was discussing the RPI numbers today.

59 Sam Houston State
65 Oral Roberts
67 UCLA
71 Baylor
81 Oklahoma State
83 Arkansas
84 McNeese State
88 Oklahoma
89 Missouri
91 Wichita State
218 Western Illinois (tops in the Summit)

Outscored SFA 22-2 during the weekend sweep - very impressive.

Interesting stats:

First thirty games:

ERA - 3.58

Bat Avg - .246

Last five games (all wins):

ERA - 1.26

Bat Avg - .318

The team is hitting its stride now - and with a starting pitching rotation including Trujillo, Gomez, Glanz and Giller coming into form, we should be a serious tournament contender.

ORU needed to come up big this weekend and they sure did.....  ....congrats to the Good Guys on a 4-0 win today and a sweep of SFA thanks to another pitching gem by Gomez and some timely hitting by Boss and Domenico....ORU is now 7-8 in conference and 19-16 overall....the boys have put themselves in a spot where they now have a legit shot to get a berth in the Southland Tournament...we are currently tied for 8th and have 9 games remaining with teams just above us in the standings....also 9 or our remaining 15 league games are at JLJ....what a difference a week makes!..... :nerd:

When was the last time (if ever) an ORU baseball team swept a 3-game series in the state of Texas?

You would think questionable/bad umpiring would account for at least one loss along the way.

And to do so in such dominant fashion - "Well played, sir!"
