Old Titan
....which, in the frigid Dakotas, is the equivalent of Hell freezing over: No. 1 Seed South Dakota State LOST in the Summit League conference tournament semis today, to arch-rival South Dakota, the No. 4 Seed. it was the first conference tournament loss in SIX YEARS for the Lady Jacks, after winning five straight tournament titles since joining the league. rabidrabbit
Yes, Jacks missed the opportunity to have never been beaten in the SF Arena with the poorest play that they had vs. Summit opponents. Definitely hurt having the lay-off since beating USD in Vermillion to close out the regular season 9 days prior, and not having the 1st round game vs the #8 team two days beforehand. Look forward to have the challenger from Tulsa back into the Summit tourney next year. Now the rest of story - SDSU falls 1 shot short of playing Rutgers for the WNIT title in Brookings as UTEP outlasts SDSU in El Paso in front of a crowd of 12000+. Along the way SDSU goes into APRIL in FROST, hosting and beating two Big East (Butler & Creighton) and two B1G (Minnesota and Indiana). For the fans in Brookings, and for the multiple underclassmen stars, what a great post-season adventure. USD was served up and feasted on by Stanford on their way to the final four. There is a raging debate in SD sports circles as who ended up with a better post season. Look forward to many a spirited fan discussion with our new/old Summit foes from Tulsa. ORUalum
i've been surprised that no big school has come calling on the SDSU women's coach. he has a great track record over a number of years. ORU is young so it might be a couple years until they can challenge SDSU.

The Goph's selection was a very good Penn St alum and Associate Coach. Rabbit fans are breathing a sigh of relief for another season of AJ appears very likely. Next year's Jacks WBB will be a REALLY good team (top 40? RPI) as they ride their 18 home winning streak into the season. Although, Notre Dame coming to Frost will likely do that in. But the last two top 25 teams to venture into Frost have been handed losses (Nebraska and Penn St).
