The University of Akron dug itself a deep hole early against Oral Roberts and could not climb out in a 67-61 loss Saturday at the Mabee Center in Tulsa, Okla.
The loss in the annual BracketBusters event snapped UA’s eight-game winning streak.
“We had good effort,” UA coach Keith Dambrot said. “I thought we were a bit discombobulated. We didn’t make any shots when it mattered, but overall the effort was good.”
Point guard Alex Abreu led the Zips ( 19-8 ) with 13 points, followed by Nikola Cvetinovic with 11.

"“The last eight minutes they did [take the inside away] because they went zone,” Dambrot said of the lack of an inside game."

Very Rough Play by Akron. We went to zone again and took them out! Congrats to great game ORU!

Yeah - I didn't think so much about it last night, but that's an interesting choice of photos for their local paper to use.

Just one of dozens of forearm shivers the Zips threw on Saturday afternoon.
It's funny how some teams get away with certain illegal moves because EVERYONE on their roster does it: Oklahoma State under Eddie Sutton would famously make TWO pivots as they received passes off screens, but they got called for a walk, because it was team-wide. Oklahoma to a man under Kelvin Sampson hand-checked on defense. Duke teams as a rule rarely get "set" when they screen or draw charges. And Akron pushed off on offense every time they wanted to evade a defender.
Guess it ain't a foul if nobody calls it (but for the record, the push-off of Roundtree in the picture WAS called as an offensive foul).

We set up, and for the most part drew (not counting Tree's third foul in the second half, which WAS a charge, but was called a block), a number of charges in the game. I wonder if that was part of the scouting report - I believe that Geoff or someone commented on that in our game against IPFW - we knew their tendency to turn and drive to the basket, and set up to draw the charge pretty effectively against them, as we did against Akron.
