I did not see the game, but the statistics that jump out are turnovers and fouls. The stats from the game:

2pt-FG%: both team shot 60.6% (20/33)
3pt-FG%: ORU (23.1%) - SDSU (28.6%) - they made 3 more threes than we did
Rebounds: ORU - 28, SDSU - 27
Turnovers: ORU - 15, SDSU - 8
Fouls: ORU - 11 of 14; SDSU - 17 of 20

The game was lost by our defense and turnovers - limiting possessions.

Did anybody else notice ESPN try to run out their "BPI" index as an alternative to the RPI a couple days ago? It bumped horrid teams like Tulsa 20+ spots above ORU and Wichita St. and protects sub .500 BCS teams.

It just made me laugh.

Anything to get more BCS teams into the dance.

Very transparent.

The way to test these (or any model) is run them off historical results. Someone should go back to 2010-11 and run the model(s) and see how well they perform.

I just checked the Feb 16th "BPI" and it is adjusted a little better. It doesn't reflect my previsous comment. The first one they put out was hilarous.

I think they got so much 'blow back' that they had to 'adjust' it a bit.

It's really funny. I think it's really interesting that the talking heads at ESPN care so much about the 'fairness' of RPI anyway? Jay Bilas talks about it every chance he gets. What, because another arbitrary grouping of numbers and calcuations is suddenly so much better?

It's also funny that they only seem to care if it's a power conference school being left out. Are they gonna fight for Belmont (KenPom: 26, BPI: 38, RPI: 76) if they don't win their conference tourney? Doubt it. But, but...the computers love 'em!

ESPN has turned into 'cable news' for sports.
