Not so good news....that 6 run shellacking that Chance took the other night didn't help his cause....Chapman has been demoted back the the AA Reading Phillies.....about the only good thing is that TheEagleman might be able to see him pitch when the Phillies come to Trenton next month to play the Yankees AA Affiliate....hopefully, Chappy can get things turned around and get back to AAA next season... :'( :worried: :'(
boys, we're gonna run the picket fence at 'em; now don't get caught watchin' the paint dry!....I know every thing there is to know about the greatest game ever played....

Chance made his first appearance since coming back to AA in last night's 2-1 loss vs. New Britain....he threw a scoreless inning to keep his ERA at Reading at 0.00 in 4 appearances....hopefully, Chappy can get his confidence back while in Reading and move back to AAA next season.....TheEagleman has tickets to see the Reading Phillies when they come to Trenton on 7/17....maybe we will get an opportunity to see Chance pitch.... :ugeek:

Two more scoreless innings for Chapman on Monday night in a 5-4 Phillies loss to the Erie Seawolves....Chance gave up 2 hits and had 2 Ks....so his ERA at AA Reading remains 0.00 in 6 appearances this season.....

Chapman was put on the DL last week....not sure why but he hasn't pitched in over a week.....Chance was also on the shelf for about a month last season and never really got things turned around after that....TheEagleman was hoping he was on the right road back in May when Chappy got promoted to AAA but it didn't work out....not sure what's going to happen next.... :worried:  :worried:

Chance is off the DL....activated yesterday but I don't think he's been in a game yet unless he pitched in tonight's 13-2 win at Trenton....TheEagleman will be in attendence at tomorrow's Reading-Trenton game and hope to see Chapman in action....the teams have played seven times in the past 10 days with the Phillies winning 5 of those 7.... :ugeek:

Chance didn't get into the game today at Trenton....still haven' had an opportunity to see our boy pitch.....geez.....it was pretty hot out there....about 90 degrees....Reading hung on to win 4-3 and is in 3rd place 5 games out of first... :ugeek:

Chance has been back on the active roster for about 9 days no and still no action....not sure what's going on...you would thing the manager (former major league catcher Mark Parent) would at least let Chappy get in an inning or work here or there....especially today when it was hot and Reading lost by 10-1 to Binghamton....

Chapman is back on the DL or he never came off...whatever, he's not on the Reading active roster at this time....too bad because the Phillies included one of the top bullpen guys from Reading in the Hunter Pence deal with Houston last night....this would have given Chance a shot at some innings....but he's not healthy.....ugh!.... :worried:

Chance has been pitching with the Phillies Class A affiliate Clearwater(FL)Threshers for the past few days....has two appearances(2 inn)and given up a pair of runs and 3 hits....this is probably a rehab thing but at this late point in the season it's unlikely he goes back to AA Reading unless there are injuries....not a good season for Chapman....I wonder what his future is with the organization after four years and at the age of 27.... :worried:

Chance pitched a scoreless inning for Clearwater last night....looks like he's likely to finish the season at the Class A level..... :worried:

Chance took the loss Wednesday night on an unearned run....then turned around and got a win on Friday night....Chapman is 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA in 5 appearances at high A Clearwater over the past 10 days.... :ugeek:

Chance has had two scoreless outings this week including a 2 inning 4 strikeout effort tonight....his ERA at Clearwater has dropped to 3.68 in 7 games since returning from his injury.... :ugeek:

Yesterday Chance was promoted to AAA Lehigh Valley just in time for the final game of the regular season today....if the Iron Pigs win, they are in the International League playoffs....Chappy could get some post season action...he pitched pretty well over the last week in his rehab stint at A ball Clearwater....

I wouldn't be surprised to see Chance in the game today and, if they win, actively in the playoffs. Although winning is great for the franchise, the Phillies having to be close to making a final evaluation on a young man and his future benefit to the organization.

Lehigh Valley moved into the International League finals with a 3 game sweep of the Pawtucket Red Sox over the weekend but our boy Chance Chapman didn't play....he still must have had a nice view from the bullpen.....

Lehigh Valley was eliminated by Columbus 3 games to 1 in the International League Finals last night....Chance pitched in game 3 (a 6-3 loss) but walked three and failed to retire any batters....not a good season finale for Chapman....we will have to wait and see what the future holds in the Philadelphia organization for Chappy during the winter.............of course, the major league Phillies won their 5th consecutive NL East crown tonight beating St. Louis, 9-2....now it's off to the NL playoffs with the best starting pitching staff in baseball..... :nerd:

FYI.....Chance is on the 2012 roster of the AAA Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (Phillies farm team)......it appears that he will likely start the season there......he was not selected in the Rule 5 draft for which he was eligible last December..... :nerd:

TheEagleman isn't sure of every nuance of the Rule 5 draft but basically.....if a player has been in the minor leagues of an organization for at least 4 or 5 seasons....he becomes eligible for the Rule 5 draft....it sort of helps decent young players from being tied to one organization if they are unable to move up for some reason.....the Phillies almost lost Ryan Howard a few years back because they had Jim Thome ahead of him....but the Phils decided to trade Thome and give Howard is shot at first base.....the rest is history......in this case, Chance has been with the Phillies since 2007 and hasn't cracked the major league lineup....any team thus could have plucked him from the Phillies organization during the last draft for a mere $50.000.....however, the kicker is this....the team selecting Chappy would have to keep him on the Major League roster for the entire regular season....if you decide to demote him at any point in the pre-season or regular season....you must offer the player back to his prior team for $25,000.....the team may decline to accept him back and then the player is yours for good.....an example of a current Rule 5 player on the Phillies is starting centerfielder Shane Victorino.....Shane was languashing in the LA Dodgers organization for 5 years when the Phillies took him in the Rule 5 draft back around 2006.....after the preseason, the Phillies decided not to carry him on the roster and offered him back to the Dodgers.....LA declined to take him back and Victorino started the season in AAA ball....he had an excellent season and made the Phillies the following year....the rest is history....after all those years in the minors, Shane has a world series ring and a nice contract that pays him about $8 million per year.....most Rule 5 stories don't turn out to be that successful....but that's one that did....the Phillies carried back up IF Michael Martinez all last year after claiming him off the Washington Nationals' Rule 5 eligible list.....he appears to be a good field but light hitting player....great speed....not sure if he will make the team this year but he just might due to Chase Utley being injured.... . :nerd:

Boy - talk about a system that makes a man feel like a slab of meat. When you manage to climb the ladder in the system it's okay, but if you don't - and nobody wants you . . . yuck! You'd have to have a lot of confidence to come out of that not feeling pretty worthless.
