Injury isn't keeping ORU's Bigham off her feet
3/2/2011 2:10:00 AM

Believe it or not, Jaci Bigham is preparing to play in the Summit League tournament, which starts Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The ORU sophomore guard worked out with her teammates Tuesday with a brace on her right knee, less than three weeks since tearing her anterior cruciate ligament.

She also went through warm-ups as the team ended the regular season with a win over IUPUI on Monday night.

On Saturday night Jaci was on the bench with her hair down and in warm-ups. On Monday night she had her hair up, as she does when she plays, and went out and did warm-up drills with the team after halftime. We were all shocked to see her on the floor. She wasn't really moving around a lot, but she clearly was wanting to get back out on the court. Can she really contribute in her current condition? Time will tell.

I have never heard of an athlete competing with an ACL tear. Has anyone else? I'm sure she's consulted with doctors to learn the implications of what playing on an injured knee could mean in the long run. She'll be in my prayers.

i think the surprise is how soon from the injury it is being considered. dejuan blair has certainly proven you don't have to an acl to play basketball. he's in the nba w/out an acl in either knee.

I'm assuming she hasn't had her surgery yet?

Sounds like they are talking about removing any chance of lateral movement in the knee with the brace, so that further damage isn't possible, but who knows?

Whole thing smacks of desperation, which I'm not sure is the message you want to be sending to your team - especially her replacement(s) - on the eve of the conference tournament.

I frankly thought the girls who filled her role at point on Monday night did a nice job.

I have no idea what it must feel like to go through 2 injuries like this with the end of the season at hand and with everything that they've worked so hard for on the line. I can understand why she would want to play if she is able to, but I agree with OT.
