ORUalum
a really good back and forth game until ORU busted out in the 7th.

Old Titan
ORU bats have come alive: every man in the line-up had at least one hit tonight; many of them timely. When Whatley gets on base, this team is devastating offensively. Sports Animal keeps treating ORU Baseball like a red-headed stepchild: completely ignored yesterday's opening-round win in hourly updates during morning drive Thursday (in favor of Big XII and Dallas Cowboys pablum), inexplicably joined tonight's broadcast after 7:00pm with two outs in the top of the first (obliterating the pregame show and several sponsor's ads in the process), then was late AGAIN coming out the break in the top of the second inning, missing another two batters/outs. Who's minding the store up there in the Citiplex: Kevin Ward himself? South Dakota State pulled a move right out of a bad Little League game tonight: Jackrabbit head coach tried to thwart a potential ORU rally in the bottom of the first by insisting the home plate umpire inspect one of the ORU bats. Umpire basically told him to grow up. Totally bush-league, but then again, consider the source...
theeagleman5
Huge six run 7th inning does it for ORU.....TheEagleman loves kicking the host team around....but we likely will have to do it again on Saturday.... the Jacks will have to use up another starter tomorrow night and will be down to their #4 guy by Saturday....we are now 40-14 and I don't see SDSU having much of a shot...ORU is on a roll......anybody know why Altamirano only went 2.2 innings tonight?.... ORUalum
Eagleman, i bet rather than going with their #4 on Saturday, SDSU will throw their #1 (Bray) and see how many innings they can get. on X, i think World B said in the postgame it was an oblique issue. theeagleman5
Geez...if X has that kind of injury it probably does him in for the season....not good.....and if SDSU wants to bring their ace back on 2 days rest.....TheEagleman says bring it on....the kid threw 110 pitches last night....he won't have much in the tank.....and people wonder why some major league teams refuse to draft college pitchers..... theeagleman5
So ORU is 30-4 over the past two months....very impressive....and all time record in the Summit Tournament is 51-2...wow!....so what are the chances that we drop two games on Saturday having lost only two in the history of the tournament?......I would acknowledge that just about all of those tournament games were played in Tulsa where we were pretty much unbeatable back in the day.....but still.....the odds are not good for the Jacks or Mastadons whoever wins tonight..... EagleManiac
It seems to me that the game last night was the championship game. SDSU is not going to be able beat us twice in a row, especially after burning more pitchers tonight. And we would have a lot of trouble coming back to beat IPFW, and then SDSU twice with the way our pitching staff has been so beat up. Anyone heard anything further about X? We're going to need him come regional time.
theeagleman5
TheEagleman agrees, Maniac....last nights' win was HUGE.....ORU is in the drivers seat for the NCAA bid come Saturday.....SDSU and IPFW should burn thru their pitching and neither should have a lot left for tomorrow....our guys will be rested....but....ya never know....we still gotta win.....doesn't sound promising for X....an oblique strain for a pitcher is usually a minimum of a month even if its minor.....might need to get Giller back in action.... ORU82
You are right EagleManiac, for either IPFW or SDSU to win the Tourney, they will have to win 3 games in a little over 24 hours. Not easy for anyone to do. However, we had better show-up ready to play ball tomorrow regardless.
titansforever
Very wise comments. You should never assume that you're going to win a game, just because you have a good record and great players. Anything can happen. (See: Marchello Vealy in basketball vs. Kansas.) We need to take our opponents seriously, avoid silly errors, focus on fundamentals, and not start talking about Regionals until we put a W on the board. Arrogance is our enemy! theeagleman5
ARROGANT?....ORU?....never....we can't afford to be....LOL.....and who would have ever thought we would see Marchello Vealy's name in the ORU baseball chat?.....
