theeagleman5
Golden Eagles vs. Pokes has been rained out for tonight....game is rescheduled in Stillwater for Wednesday night....this one should be a dandy against 10th ranked OSU......if ORU wins....are we in consideration for the Top 25???..we would have won 4 of 5 games in the past month over Top 25 teams OSU and Texas Tech..... Bogus Smith
Going into the bottom of the 9th, ORU has taken it to the Cowboys, 15-5. Nine runs in the second and six runs in the third, after being down 3-0 in a productive first inning for OSU. ORU is 5-1 in the Big 12 this season! Go Eagles!!
TrueBlue82
Another great win. A 40-win season is within reach!
ManiacAlum
Well I guess the bats have arrived. And ORU did finally get 2 votes in last week's USA Today coaches poll, good enough for 47th nationally. That's four spots behind Texas, which has a 19-18 record and an RPI of 98. ORU's RPI now sits at 31. More importantly, 3-0 vs OU and OSU this year.
ORU82
So when do we move to the Big XII, seeing how we have fared against their teams the last couple years? JK!
theeagleman5
Wow!....looks like we have a juggernaut at 7777 South Lewis.....ORU has now won 15 of 16 after that 15-5 beatdown of the Pokes last night in Stillwater.....6 RBI and a HR for Afenir and also a 3 run HR for Cummings....now it's on to NDSU and a big weekend series vs. the Bison....
titansforever
We used to post 40-win seasons as a matter of routine. It's so good to see us becoming that type of team again! Now, we just need a higher national ranking. For sure, we should win out in the Summit League.
theeagleman5
Amazing what returning to the Summit League has done for our overall record (25-10).....of course, we have also beaten TTU, OSU and OU....so it seems that this ORU team has improved....but we sure stunk it up in the Southland the past couple of years..... ORUTerry
We are playing well and hitting the ball very well. Let's hope that our pitching heals up - although the guys seem to be doing okay. It would be nice to see ORU move up in the rankings - which would help in seeding for the tournament.
ORUTex
There's a nice article on the game in D1Baseball.com's Midweek Madness section (http://www.d1baseball.com/analysis/midweek-madness-wednesday-april-15/). They have us as a 3 seed in College Station in the latest projections (http://www.d1baseball.com/analysis/field-of-64-projections-week-10/), but say that could climb to a 2. Oral Roberts … Oklahoma State Champs? Okay, we’re kidding about that … kind of. The Golden Eagles have been very good this season, and improved to 25-10 overall with a road beatdown and 15-5 route of Oklahoma State on Wednesday. ORU got a huge night at the plate from five-hole hitter Audie Afenir, whose grand slam in the third inning put this one pretty much in doubt with his club already leading the Cowboys 15-4 after three innings. ORU never looked back, slugging Oklahoma State’s pitching staff for 15 hits and 15 runs en route to yet another impressive victory. While Afenir led the charge, leadoff hitter and catcher Matt Whatley had a big day, too, going 4-for-6 with a double and two RBIs, while second baseman Matt Brandy had a pair of hits, and outfielder Derrian James, who earned Summit League Player of the Week honors last week had two more hits in yet another impressive performance. ORU continues to have an impressive RPI, and its resume could formulate into one of a two-seed before it’s all said and done. The Golden Eagles touched up Oklahoma State talented lefthander Garrett Williams for three runs on two hits in 1.1 innings, while they also lit up another talented arm, Tyler Buffet, for six runs in 1/3 of an inning. Pretty impressive night, ORU.
oruvoice
Could we host, as a 2-seed? If we win out (or close to it) and win the conference tourney, any chance at a 1 seed?
titansforever
The Southland Conference had better teams, I think, though we probably didn't have our best teams the last 2 years either (injuries hurt us pretty bad). This year, we seem to have an answer whenever a good player is on the DL. And the guys sure have a LOT of confidence at the plate. Sometimes all the pieces come together at the right time. Maybe this will be our year to go to the Series. It's been a LONG time...
Old Titan
We used to post 40-win seasons as a matter of routine. It's so good to see us becoming that type of team again! Now, we just need a higher national ranking. For sure, we should win out in the Summit League. Hey, 40 wins is nothing to sneeze at these days: they play a lot fewer games. I can recall a couple of seasons when my boy Sunny was hovering just under the 40-win plateau, and whattya know: ORU suddenly schedules Northeastern State of Tahlequah for a midweek game at beautiful J.L. Johnson Stadium!!
Bad Blood
Could we host, as a 2-seed? If we win out (or close to it) and win the conference tourney, any chance at a 1 seed? I gotta think a 2-seed is the absolute ceiling, and that's with a 43-12 type season at the end of the Summit Tournament...
TrueBlue82
Agreed on the 2 seed ceiling... and there are too many good teams in our region with large stadiums for us to get a sniff at hosting again, like we used to on a regular basis in the early 80's. TrueBlue82
And what I REALLY love about this team is how FRESHMEN have made huge contributions this season. Matt Whatley (.333, 3HR), Noah Cummings (.284, 3 HR), Nick Roark (.321), and Bryce Howe (2-1, 3.04) have all succeeded in key roles for ORU this year - the future is BRIGHT! oruvoice
Well, perhaps if we win the regional, we can host a super regional?!?
